Hikaru no Go AMV
Well I finally got it up. I spent the last two days making a Hikaru no Go AMV with Windows Movie Maker *cringes* and still didn't get it like I would like it, though I am pleased with it.
It's callsed sainostalgia. The song is Nostalgia from AIR and the artist is Lia. Feedback on it would be wonderful.

I liked it
I like this AMV. The transitions need a little work, but other than that I like how you got the mood to go with the pictures and the transitions.

i suggest cropping off your subs before editing in WMM though, that is unless you want to learn different ways to export (in the recommended guides at the bottom)..
I'm not sure what story youre trying to tell with your video, but then again i havent really seen the series either, though i do know a little tiny bit about it.
a few orphan frames here and there, but not bad for a first attempt...
suggestions:
1. crop off subs (at the very least) or BETTER YET! buy the DVDs and learn how to rip them you will always have cleaner video if you rip directly from your DVDs...
2. timing could be improved, I caught several orphan frames in there (thats when an image will flash for a second, and you didnt intend it to be there) try to avoid those at all costs, I know WMM makes that really difficult but if you work really hard at it you can improve in that area..
3. dont use DIVX/XVID clips while editing, they stamp a logo in the corner if you have the logo "watermark" turned on in DIVX you can recompress them to lagarith or Huffy for the best quality, but there are several other codecs that you can use, you can use Virtualdub Mod to recompress them (you can get virtualdub mod in the AMVAPP) so DIVX causes the stamp and im guessing thats what caused the Particles in your video, so dont use DIVX/XVID
Particles:
heres a couple of guides that i will recommend to you:
1. how I rip DVDs
2. cropping off subtitles
3. importing into WMM
4. exporting from WMM
5. compressing to XVID for distrobution
6. compressing your audio
if you follow these they will improve the quality of your video alot...

glimpses
I agree with the glimpses of the clips. I had thought that I had gotten all of them. All it takes is two little clicks of the forward button in WMM. Unfortunantly I don't know how to rip the files to my computer. My friend did it for me and I asked her how, but all I got was "That's easy" and then she turned around and walked away. I know I would have liked to get more clips to use for this video, but seeing as I had only what my friend gave me, it was interesting trying to find clips that I hadn't used already. Oh well, I'll go look at the links that you gave me and figure it out that way.
The story actually isn't quite clear. It gets kinda cut up at the beginning. It pretty much is supposed to be that Akira is chasing Sai at the beginning, but he thinks that it's Hikaru. So he leaves him alone and continues on his path once Hikaru tells him that he doesn't want him around him any more.
After that it goes into the part where Sai leaves and Hikaru gets depressed and starts looking for him. Throughout this section I have placed "memories" of what it was like when Sai was with Hikaru.
The story then goes back to Akira and how at the beginning he couldn't believe he lost to Hikaru, and as if Hikaru "heard" him he tells the viewers that it wasn't him, but Tora-jirou who Akira lost to.
The clips that I have after that are from the episodes where he realizes that Sai is with him and that he can play go. This is followed by a dream that he had. I made sure that the dream looked different from the rest of the clips, but I don't think that it worked well if you didn't know what those clips were from. I was going for the passing on of responsibility, and that's why I have Hikaru buying the fan after it, to show that he now is going to chase Akira so that he can take Sai's place in his mind.
Then comes the part where he is talking to Sai and saying that he will go on playing go in his remembrance.
I would have liked the clips after this to have all been from when he is grown up, but again my little problem. The clips that are after him saying that he will go forward are to show all of the people that he has had to go through to finally get to Akira, who I have as his last person before I go back to him remembering Sai.
The clips after the Akira game are showing Sai teaching Hikaru and to show that Sai encouraged Hikaru to go forward and to go after Akira on his own. I then keep going backwards in time to when Hikaru was saying that he would let Sai play go. These are memories that are still going through Hikaru's head, so then we see him crying and remembering Sai. The last clips go back to their very first game together.
The AMV ends with him telling Sai that he made it to the top and to where Sai wanted him to go.
As for the subtitles, I actually planned for those to be there. I actually choose some of the clips and put my story to them because of what he was saying. I think I had one clip where I didn't want the subtitles, but even then it still seemed to fit the story to me. I'll look at how to get rid of them though, seeing as how I don't want them to always be there.
Thanks for the reply. I hope the explination of the story makes some sense.
