I like that you established a motif and kept with it but still managed to vary it up enough to keep it interesting. It was very stylish. I can't say I really followed much of what was going on story-wise, but I still enjoyed it.
The sync itself is really nice, although it's on the border of being obsessive. The first half or so is fine but after a while it kinda hurts the eyes a little. I do like how you tried to tone it down slightly during the less upbeat parts of the song. Also you made those "outdated" effects look very classy and sophisticated. The masks, the cutters, the TV simulator...they all just fit together really well and instead of looking noobish, it looks very stylish. By far one of the better VK AMVs I've seen in comparison with the horrors on Youtube with this source. XD Good job. I really enjoyed it.
Also nice poster.

Re: Alice
YAYAYAY! finally!! XD
I really do love the style, typically any videos using the fx you did especially with that source.. i would hate.. but the way you used it made it look pretty and stylish.
Editing wise, I did enjoy the sync a lot, but I can see someone maybe needing to take a break halfway through just because there is so much going on x.x
Story wise;
Overall I liked it a lot =D

The lines.. Never really thought of it that way. I guess it can look like a geometrical mess Thanks for the comment.Milk Or Life! wrote:Somewhat... orginal?
Brightness of lines could be toned down a little, and some of static masks feel kinda ... weird?
Interesting idea but kinda too... abrupt(?) form for me .
Sorry for your eyes But thanks!Kairih wrote:This is really interesting, somehow I found it disturbing (for my eyes xD)
But you've done a good job!

Thanks! I actually didn't think much about effects here. Just wanted it to have a structure, which would look decent, in a way minimalistic, and allow me to sync everything... Maybe one of these days I won't be such a coward and actually learn something like After EffectsAimoAio wrote:The sync itself is really nice, although it's on the border of being obsessive. Re: Alice
the effects were kinda tacky looking in my opinion. but i liked the way you didn't use actual animated scenes until towards the end, and that gave it some climax and also some variation, which was a strong point in this, keeping almost the same exact 3 effects but making them noticeably different looking and different feeling was definitely the strong point here, i just thought the effects themselves had a very cheesy feel to them aesthetically. i think the still masks of the characters just reminded me of all those AE Bleach videos where they use renders of kubo's art of the characters and put "ULQIORRA" dooodoooodoodundunundun "GRIMMJOW" and the popping out of the window thing reminded me of what they do on tv to advertise for bad 3d movies. but you had good pacing and stayed true to your concepts.

Re: Alice
My 4 year old niece watched it all the way through and when I asked her what she thought of it she babbled something close to this:
"uh-huh... the thing... and the Barbie... and the singing eh eh eh eh eh"
I don't know if thats a good thing, but she likes Barbie.
My personal thoughts on it are this:
It was interesting, style wise. I apparently also got the story you were trying to portray. And I recommend people watch in a well lit room and keep some distance between you and the screen.

Re: Alice
You already know I like it, Emong, which - coming from someone who doesn't enjoy seizure-inducing effects - should mean something. There's a good story being told underneath, which for me counts for quite a lot! It captured the dark side of what I remember of the series and has made me want to revisit it, something that also counts for a lot in my book.
For everyone commenting about the "outdated" "cheesy" effects...I don't want to speak for Emong, but I don't think you can make a video like this in 2011 without knowing exactly what you're doing...and doing it anyways. It's like fashion - what's hot today is outdated tomorrow and is retro cool in the near future. For me, this falls towards the retro cool end of things.

Re: Alice
I dug it.
I loved how you edited with this footage and made it seem much darker than the anime actually is. I personally didn't' like the TVish visual effect, but I can ignore it because the rest of the video was solidly edited, and I loved the concept that you utilized.
Especially towards the end really garnered a lot of my attention.

I think "retro" is a pretty good way to describe my approach. I was very conscious about the type of effects I was using, although I'm sort of used to thinking about effects as structure rather than something spectacular and sparkly. But I'd be lying if I said it couldn't have worked any other way. A lot of it had to do with me getting back into editing and keeping up my motivation, which basically meant that I wanted to work with a familiar program. So this is also why I worked strictly within Vegas limits. It would be cool master After Effects etc. someday but it probably won't be anytime soon. At the moment I'm cool with my retro approach If people find it tacky, cool, if they like it, cooler.DriftRoot wrote:For everyone commenting about the "outdated" "cheesy" effects...I don't want to speak for Emong, but I don't think you can make a video like this in 2011 without knowing exactly what you're doing...and doing it anyways. I kinda wonder what kind of an impression people who haven't seen Vampire Knight would get from my AMV. They propably wouldn't expect a lot of humor from the series although it totally has it... Anyhow, thank you very much for beta testing and thanks for your comment now. Much appreciated!DriftRoot wrote:You already know I like it, Emong, which - coming from someone who doesn't enjoy seizure-inducing effects - should mean something. Myeah, kinda tells you something about why I watched the series in the first place (to find some proper footage for the song...) Thanks very muchCodeZTM wrote:I dug it.
