Re: SubtEXt
Ok, let's start out with the positive. I like the music choice. It fit well with the footage to create a mood. The sync and flow were well done. However, I find that the concept is where this video really starts to break down. It's not terribly deep. It seems to revolve around the lyrics "I want to kill you" and doesn't really stretch beyond that. There's no intellectual exploration here. It's almost 4 minutes of a relatively simple idea illustrated by random SZS footage, much of which is from intros. The SZS openings are all very interesting visually, and it's an easy way to make the video look artsy-fartsy, so bravo on that. Unfortunately, these facets (random footage, simple concept) left me incredibly bored. I watched it back through a second time to make sure I wasn't missing something. I wasn't. At least I'm pretty sure there wasn't. I have to admit, I didn't make it all the way through a second time.
Since you made such a big deal of the lip sync, let's look at that as well. You seem to understand that basic lip-flap =/= good lip synch. However lip-flap with RANDOM COMPLEX MOUTH MOVEMENT IN ZE MIDDLE =/= good lip sync either. You have seen peoples' mouths move while they're talking in real life, right? Because your lip sync only vaguely resembles that. If, perhaps, you've been afflicted with some strange disease since birth that renders you unable to see the movements of peoples' mouths and you were bravely trying to live past that affliction, I apologize profusely.
In closing, the video had some merit, but there was definite room for improvement. Is this critique harsh? Yes. But if you go out of your way to respond to someone's polite and legitimate critique with unadulterated rudeness, you don't particularly deserve politeness in return.

I "made such a big deal of the lip sync." This is not true.
I was *really* rude on the video description. I initially was going to take it down pretty immediately afterwards, but it seemed to be amusing people, so I left it up. I'm told it offended people, so I took it down, I did get some pretty amusing trolls out of it, so it's still a net gain for me, but I am sorry I offended you, and a number of other people.
Then again maybe you had fun trolling the thread, in which case... um... you're welcome?

Overall, I thought it had a good horror vibe mixed with a pop theme. Although I felt the ending should have been more abrupt, it had a nice execution of the idea. 4.5/5

Yes, because when someone acts "immature" towards you or other people, acting in the exact same way back to them is so "mature"aesling wrote: In closing, the video had some merit, but there was definite room for improvement. Since when does every video have to have a "deep" concept. Can people not edit stuff just for fun? To do what they want with the video? I happen to enjoy the video even without a deep concept. It was clean, fun, and artistic and I enjoyed that.aesling wrote:However, I find that the concept is where this video really starts to break down. It's not terribly deep. Anyways, Nyn, you know my opinion on this video. I've enjoyed it since I saw the first beta.

I was curious if I was inflicted with that strange disease as well. But maybe you are the one with the problem?aesling wrote: If, perhaps, you've been afflicted with some strange disease since birth that renders you unable to see the movements of peoples' mouths and you were bravely trying to live past that affliction, I apologize profusely.
I've actually compared my own lip movements with the ones in the video:

They are alike.

I still haven't finished this anime, but I did saw your betas and the little details you've been adding until now make this video even more unique!
And Echi? Nah, I would say... classy-echi!

Calling someone out for what looks like a situation where they can't handle a tiny bit of criticism isn't being immature. I respect that you are standing up for WS but please don't do the same thing you're advocating other people not to do. It doesn't make you look any better and it doesn't help the situation either.RAWdangers wrote: Yes, because when someone acts "immature" towards you or other people, acting in the exact same way back to them is so "mature"
No one said that every video has so have a deep concept but some people like to see more. You can't fault them for that and they will mention it if they feel like it. People can edit stuff just for fun and do so 99% of the time but if you're going to upload it for public display, expect comments and criticisms you don't like. And it's awesome that you enjoyed the video without the deep concept other people might want to see, we all have different tastes. You either listen to what they have to say and think about it in the future or realize for yourself that what you have is exactly what you wanted, thank them for their input and then move on.RAWdangers wrote: Since when does every video have to have a "deep" concept. Now that that's out of the way, the video was solid. Editing was well done but like aes said, it lacked a "deep concept". Is that bad? No, just wish there was a bit more to it then what I saw. There was something there but it didn't expand much. It was kind of the same tone and visuals throughout the video. Still though, solid. As for the lip syncing, it wasn't bad or terrible but there was definitely something off about it. It was too synthetic i guess. I'm by no means an expert on lipsync (after 12 yeas you'd think I'd have that down by now -_-) so I really can't tell you how to improve on it but in all honesty, it's nothing major enough to make the video an less viewable from my point of view. That said, other people might see that differently and will say so, there's no need to tell them to "fuck off". You just look like a jerk when you do that and people will call you on it.

Re: SubtEXt
How was the QC in the description a polite and legitimate critique? While I fully support honest critiques, stating something was bad without giving any type of useful feedback on how to make it better can't even be called a critique. Paired with the anonymity of the QC system it seems like it functions more as a way to boost one's self esteem by putting down another video without any repercussions. That said, to counter the rude comment with another rude comment is probably not the best idea...but, aesling, you've taken it a step further by defending the first rude comment and admonishing the second rude comment with...rudeness! It is quite possible to leave a harsh and honest critique while still being civil...but it seems as though you purposely chose the most abrasive way possible to uphold your misguided views of justice.Warlike Swans wrote:I was *really* rude on the video description.
