  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

and you dont have to spend 3 months on a video,

just slow down a bit and stop slapping in random scenes... what you could use work on is planning... listen to the song over and over and visualize the video in your head before jumping into editing...

the more planning you have the more of a chance you can make a good video in a little ammount of time

only if you are really slow or are busy like I am (haven't made anything since V-day o.O or at least not a whole video)

but um yeah....a vid a day isn't that great. I used to do that, but now I take my time to get things as good as I feel I can. You don't have to be super special awesome, but if you keep on being annoying and ignoring people's advice it gets old fast.

This guy is an AMV editing machine! He needs no rest, he needs no sleep, he needs no editing skills, he needs no basic understandment what editing is, he needs not to listen to anything anyone is telling him, he needs no long-term plan to develop intellectual videos right hot off the press - but why, I wonder? Because he kicks ass and has been coming up with interesting and exciting new ways of editing FLCL videos ever since last month.

I would say, you should try and pick out a fairly simple AMV from here that you like, one that follows beat synch (and has the anime you have) and then just sit and TRY to see if you can recreate it. It might give you a lot of practice and teach you how to beat synch and teach you to not let things run on. I think it'll be good practice.

Watching the waveform diagram of your song can also help you in the syncing. If you want to put the explosion to the cymbal crash or change the scene on the drumbeat, look for the peak of the waveform and put the change of scene there. So you can make a fast-paced vid to a fast-paced song by just letting yourself be led by the waveform peaks/beats. (You might want to do a little sync-video and try to play with this - like Cornwiggle suggested).
For example in you latest vid - the three beats on 00:00:03 - you could use some kind of flash, quick change of scenes, a little zooming there - or best some action scene that has for example a character beating another with a baseball bat at similar speed

As for spending half a month on a video - the main purpose is to point out that it's better not to hasten the work just to have a finished video right here and right now but to be a little patient with it and try to improve it until you yourself really like it. It can take a few days but in the end you will be victorious - you will be rewarded with the good feeling of a good work finished. Trust me - it's worth it even though the vid isn't perfect but you know that you've done everything you could. It's like building a airplane model - you can either put together two pieces of paper (and be happy) or try to make something more sophisticated, something that will shine on your shelf (and be happy). Just think of making ten of those simple models in a day or devoting the same time to making a shiny plastic spitfire model (I know those numbers are unrealistic).
I include planning and looking for right material into that work. Of course the pure-editing time is a lot shorter. But it really depends on what do you want the outcome to be and how much time are you willing to spend on it.

You can also make a good video in suprisingly little time, but having a good concept is the vital point.

You can have a vid focused on story or on effect. Effect doesn't mean just special effects but any kind of editor virtuosity that you want to show off (accurate lipsync, perfect action syncing, special effects). These are vids that are made to look good. If you've seen the movie "300", that's what I'm talking about.
Example:http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=15698
But here can be also some funny vids.
You need to think about how the action flows, how it is synced and so on.

The story vids are those that are trying to tell some story - you need to think basically about the story that you're trying to tell and how to make it understandable.
As a movie, i might recommend "The Fountain".

Of course there are many other categories and subcategories and all blend together in the vids. Watching other vids is the best way to see what really needs improvement.

As for practical advice - I can't really give any better than those by JaddziaDax. Cherish them - those are the golden advices.
Maybe one - when you become great friends with your editing program, only thing that limits you is your imagination. Try to play around a little just for yourself.

And as for your latest video, I must say that this vid really is better than the last one.
