Well, it was ok, but it was far from perfect. The song itself was really long, and I kept spacing off, which is unhelpful since you really need to listen to the lyrics to know what's going on. Now, I realize it would have been difficult to edit this down due to the nature of the song and what you did with it. However, I think it would have helped if more was going on visually to keep me interested. Sure you had some weird moments going on, but there was a lot of lipsync, with only a few other things happening interspersed here and there. The lipsync also needed work. There were parts were the Gman was way off, but there were other sections were I noticed the anime characters were off as well. With all of this, it just didn't bring off the mood all that strongly, so overall while the video vaguely amused me, I wasn't all that impressed by it.

My god. Maybe the most original video I've seen this year. Deffinately not technically perfect, but very amusing and original as a whole.
4/5

The Time has come the Good-Man said.
Anyways, I appreciate all responders who have made just comments so far as well as forumers who are as critical but not biased as possible.
More or less, this video receives a 1/5 for technical issues from me. The majority time taking in this video was everything technical and more or less it pisses me off when the audio encode becomes out of synch in your transfer to x264. Even more, is the fact that I had a deadline with this video and the call for my film occupation needed me to be in line at the time of the final encode. As most of you may have noticed I had become absent immediately after I uploaded this video, the call for ones occupation can be a bit unnerving. However here I am fellow AMVers, editors, reviewers, and friends, giving my time to address and share the increasing power of ideas.
As for the video as a whole, I won't give it a score at all, simply put, the video is a bit personal to me. Everything from Roger Waters' emotional music of his album The Wall, to the character angst of our very own Shinji Ikari.
Why do I like Evangelion? It's quite simple really. I feel like I know every character from that show. I feel one with every emotion conveyed and circumstance that befalls on Shinji, Asuka, Rei, and Misato. And most importantly, I feel like I have something in common with all of them.
My attachment to Evangelion has caused me to make about three unreleased Eva music videos in the past, the last being over five years ago. About the same time I stopped making AMVs. At the time I only released one to the public. A Spriggan music video that's a piece of worthless crap. This video was made about six years ago, and the only reason why I released it was because of boredom.
Thanks to you all for your patience. I should address previous statements made on this forum.
Anyways, this video is nothing but technical flaws, hidden 75% by smoke and mirrors. This video is probably the biggest cheat I've ever done for anything in terms of hiding layers, giving illusions to situations, and manipulating characters.
This is also the first Source Engine project in which I finally wanted to make public. My reasoning for releasing comes from the concept and personal attachment for the video. If this specific reason didn't exist, then this video wouldn't have been released at all, given its obvious technical issues.
Minion, this video is a lesson to all editors in which a key element to success of any product is patience. I personally think a lot of patience went into this video but not quite enough.
Thanks a lot for your time to watch the video Minion. Your comments is well taken and I hope will influence future projects.
Greatly appreciate your words and time Sephiroth. It gives me great hope to see members such as yourself looking for something unique and original.
But I think the most appreciated thing that sKy has said is his all caps BELIEVED statement. Another goal of 'Ikari's Redemption' was to create an environment and characters that were believable. One of the unique things about this video is the fact that it does establish a setting for the audience to reside in, despite the surrealness going on.
Ironically a video that came out the same time this video did (yesterday) does close to establishing setting and environment. I was quite happy such a video came out along side mine. It's Aceman's 'The Call.' The link to his video is here:

Thanks to the great sKy for his time and great comments.
Thanks for watching Angelic86.
Just kidding Rave_Epic
Wow, I wasn't expecting statements such as this. Really appreciate the awesome comment Rave.
Yet, it is a comment, and the only thing I have to stomach up to is the fact that this video is not going to appeal to everyone.
I do appreciate your time to view the video aesling who's a person of your caliber.
The song is perfect to me and cutting it down and editing it in anyway would lose the point of the theme and story. The important thing for me to do in this video was to show a unique concept and story given a time used more than the average AMV. I am surprised that you desire more visuals on screen, because even this editor believes that there's a lot happening on screen.
But this is entirely my perspective, and it's not going to be adapted by everyone.
Greatly appreciated aesling.
Thanks Funky-kun for your time and awesome "MY GOD" statement.
I'm glad that you took notice that the sources used are from episodes 25 and 26. 90% of Eva footage used is from just those two episodes. Only one shot is from another episode, and the rest of the 10% comes from The End of Evangelion.

Yeah, 5/5's? what the hell indeed.Minion wrote: the masking ranged from mediocre to awful.
this didn't need to be so upscaled so damn much.
though i have to admit, for something absolutely crawling with technical and design flaws, i enjoyed it. it was interesting, had some originality, and even though it was half assed, the effort is obvious.
/r/ a remaster

Your words I'll leave for your own taste Sephiroth. As for me, it's more like we need more videos with faces. Despite technical issues and flaws displayed in the video, Ikari's Redemption I believe has a face. A face that distinguishes itself from other videos of its genre. This is one of the key goals that I wanted to achieve in this video. I have to say I am satisfied with the product in terms that I can stick it in a long list of AMVs and immediately pick it out judging by its face. I'm not flattering myself here just simply because I made the damn thing. But simply I believe it's the truth.Sephiroth wrote: Odd, in other words nice. And i don't say that often.
Not quite what i wanted, but we still need more bits of insanity in this hobby. Thanks for giving it.

I have some technical nitpicks, mostly about sometimes-crappy masking, but those are hardly worth a damn given what this video does right. Fucking awesome concept, amazingly fluent and cohesive execution...simply put, I BELIEVED everything in this video was happening.
Absolutely astounding work here Luke. You just keep improving, I am absolutely speechless with this.

Once again, my goal for strangeness is being justified. Thanks Falconone for taking notice of this, for this makes me happy. I'm also very happy that the obvious technical issues aren't degrading the overall concept of the video. This is making me even more happy.Falconone wrote: Really strange, but very cool. Third, I'm not always about video quality/technical things. The video had an idea, you ran with it and to me, it worked. I love Pink Floyd and I love what you've done here, even if it's full of flaws.
Biased? I think not. Noticing something that's pretty damn unique? You bet.

Lol, a person of my calibur? I'm flattered. I guess what I'm trying to say is perhaps that in addition to to all the lipsync you could have added additional scenes, done more overlays, or other things to keep people as ADD as I am interested through the whole thing, because like I said I realize that editing down the song would have ruined what you were trying to do with it. I'm not saying that your idea has no merit, though. And it probably didn't help that I watched this video really late at night, so perhaps it was unfair of me to give feedback based on my first impression. I'll try to watch it through again and let you know what I think.servo101010 wrote:While I agree with your technical issues stated later on aesling, I'm really confused with your reasoning in above quote.

Thanks for your energy to rewatch the vid again. But please, don't be influenced by my interpretations or perspective. I do believe that this video is not for everyone, and that your perspective is justified and unique when it comes to viewing something such as 'Ikari's Redemption.'aesling wrote: And it probably didn't help that I watched this video really late at night, so perhaps it was unfair of me to give feedback based on my first impression. I kinda agree and I kinda don't, because this is not everything Pink Floyd is, but as far as this particular song goes the statement is correct.Rave_Epic wrote:this IS pink floyd.
The Half-Life/EVA combination is definately something refreshing and it must've taken a lot of time to get all the pieces together, the main criticism I'd like to address would be that it feels like not much of NGE as a series is actually represented in the video. Meaning that it's ok for the Half-Life character since he's obviously just used as a tool to execute the concept but as far as NGE goes you basically just gave out roles from the song to the most fitting characters of the series and by that made them kinda seem too plastic, much more like puppets than the people they are in the show.
And since I think that you were also reaching out for a Shinji character profile I think it would've been better to step a bit away from the actual storyline of the song and concentrate more on Shinji's background since he's your main character here. Overall a very original work though so this is definately staying on my HDD.
(Also one other thing, I especially liked the text at the beginning and the end, it framed everything very nicely).

To tell you in honest truth I wasn't shooting for a character profile at all. As the genre states in the video profile, it was meant to be serious and dramatic. But I do appreciate your point to address Shinji's background, this is a emphasis on 'Ikari's Redemption's' story.
Your statement on using or feeling NGE as a series in this video however I cannot yield to. One of the goals in this video was to limit the resource of using Eva footage. Specifically to episodes 25 and 26. Probably one of the most difficult episode footage to edit to.
Thanks for your comments and your time to view the video Ingow.
