  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Comments from You-Tube are worthless. If the viewer likes the song or anime, they'll say they like the video. If they like both, then you'll hear nothing but rave reviews. I have never seen actual constructive criticism on the 'Tube.

That doesn't prove anything to me...NONE of them said anything actually useful. All it was was "I like this", with no reasons why (except for the few people that mentioned the song or anime...see my last post). Quantity != quality, and when it comes to sites like those you can't use those comments to claim that your video is subjectively "good".

(As a side-note, I thought this was a hilarious comment: "it was ok. simple transitions for syncing never look good. 5/5 anyways." wtf? If "it was ok", why'd he give a 5/5?)

I watched the video you linked...at least, the first ~2:00 of it. By that point I was so sick of the annoying, repetitve stock effects and random scene selection that I couldn't make it any further. If you want my opinion on that video, it sucked. Hard. It was unoriginal (in that there was no concept at all, that I could tell), the sync was annoying (the zoom-ins especially), and I didn't think the song fit the footage at all.

You realize that no one there said anything like that. Yet here, I can guarantee that 90% of the people who would watch that video would parrot what I just said. The .org is...well, you could say that here, people are much more critical. At sites like that the majority of people who watch any videos do so because the sources appeal to them, and don't take any of the more technical considerations into account. Here, you're going to attract a much more jaded crowd, and be prepared to hear people say your AMVs aren't as good as people at streaming video sites say they are.

I downloaded your Blink 182/Death Note video, and couldn't make it through more than a minute of it because there was no sync. At all. Also, the video was really choppy, as if it had a weird frame rate. Work a lot harder on sync and actually cutting up your clips to sync to the song, because there didn't seem to be much actual editing in this video. It was more like you took a bunch of scenes and placed them randomly together without doing any work. The video had no flow, no concept (well, nothing that kept my interest, obviously), and as such, bored me.

So...yeah. Consider this something of a reality check, because here you're going to get viewers who will look at your videos with a much more critical eye than those at sites like You-Tube.

umm ok went to check out the Claymore one. You only used episode 8 (yes yes we all love Teresa and want her to bear our children but the AMV needed more variety =P) and the song is 5 mins long... the episode is 20mins long, so you basically had 1/4 of the episode which is why I can't see where you've actually editted or if you used more than 10 cuts in the entire AMVs o_O yeah there was no synch either. But it's an interesting song and kudos for attempting a Claymore AMV because I had yet to see one which makes me drool all over it 2/10 rating from me =) and avoid subtitles I could tell that you were using Eclipse subs =P

I watched the first minute of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones-Bleach one before I closed the window, realizing it was your video making my dinner want to creep back up my throat.

Seriously though you NEED to pay attention to things like "sync" where the stuff that happens on screen, in the anime... get this... "matches up" with whats going on in the song. Another thing to watch out for is mood, the pacing of your clips, etc. You layed slow, tension filled, pre-battle scenes onto a very upbeat song which "felt" totally wrong. Next, a concept or theme, something that ties the video together. Scene selection is also important, tell your audience a story, or at least try to evoke some emotion from them.

Why explain all this? Your video lacked ALL of the above. You need to consider these things when making a video, don't just throw stuff together, please... think of the children...

hmm interesting. I'll take your word on everything you say, since undoubtedly you are most likely better at making amvs than i am and have been here a while, but i thought alot of them did sync, i mean maybe we have different notions of sync. Mine wouldnt be switch of scene with the music, it would be the differences happening within the scene, which i do a fair bit, to flow better. One thing i will say though, isn't it hard to be a critique at something you haven't seen the whole of?

I felt i did sync for example, the historys resolution kenichi one well, so try download that and then give me some feedback.

Some people probably can critique on a vid they only seen part of.
They probably can get a good enough grasp of the video to tell what they think about it.
I wouldn't know though since i rarely give real critiques to videos ^^;
