- Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
- Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
- When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
- Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Re: MEP - ATORI
Eh. I dunno. Not everything has to be creative to be good. I like a good Ayumix clone here and there, especially with different footage. It's like the sucess of the super mario series. Pretty much every game is a clone of the one in the past, with new innovations here and there. And that's a lot like what AMV clones are. They can still be enjoyable, it's all just about taste though, so I guess it's just kind of pointless arguing this here.Shinnie04 wrote:Well for me it just shows a blatant lack of creativity. I had an extended metaphor in there, but my laptop's batter died and I was too irritated to retype it out.

Yeah but the Mario series has always been a trademark of the Nintendo industry. You don't see other gaming companies creating extremely similar characters due to plagiarism.Code wrote:It's like the sucess of the super mario series.

I really enjoyed this, had more interesting anime choices and editing variety, making it fun to watch 4/5
Also this thread fucking disgusts me, but trolls will be trolls.
Oh well as Code says it comes down to taste and what you prefer seeing =)

Not everything has to be creative to be good: I'll give you that...a little bit. I would argue the difference between good and solid though, which is where I think we differ a little bit. And Oropher maybe you should read this too and maybe you'll learn a little bit instead of just yelling "TROLL" whenever someone has something negative to say about an AMV.Code wrote: Not everything has to be creative to be good. That being said when I rate a video, how much I enjoy it depends on how intellectually stimulating it can be; does an editor use symbols, what does x, y, z represent, what's the greater meaning here, etc. There's a surprising amount of videos that are open to these kinds of...well almost literary or "filmish" interpretations. Those are the videos I like, and those are the videos I give 5 stars. Now you can find this kind of depth in any video which is why I choose this approach. I'm not going to dock an editor creative points because they happen to use Windows Movie Maker. And to me it's incredibly disappointing when editors express what I see as zero creativity or depth; the entire purpose behind this MEP was generic eye candy and the songs are all but inaccessible to me. I mean to me if I were to find a message in this video, it would be that anime is completely meaningless, colorful garbage used for the sexual exploitation of lolis and/or hot chicks (and we all know anime is nothing like that, right?). That is what this video expresses to me, and that's not intellectually stimulating at all and thus =/= entertaining or "good".
The Ergo Proxy, "Project Relic" rip off was disappointing to me because when an editor does that they capture the visual aesthetic of a project, but not the emotions or depth it carries. Granted Project Relic was kind of muddled in what its message was, but the themes held up very nicely and the feeling you walked away from that video with were incredibly satisfying and genuine.
As for creativity being important I believe this community has changed a bit over the years; when someone would copy an effect before it would immediately be pointed out and an editor would be harassed for it. Perhaps that is becoming more accepted at this time or maybe Code, just maybe you haven't been watching videos as long as some of us have. And maybe things do still feel relatively fresh for you that feel old for us. But what you have to understand is a lot of us have been watching videos forever, and we keep watching them because there are still a few videos out there that baffle us and bring back that same feeling of wonder and enjoyment we got when watching our first video. That's what we look for because that is what is good, that is what a video should do. It shouldn't blandly and unemotionally rehash a grotesque compilation of everything we've already seen, and editors should try to keep in mind that when they present a video here, they're presenting it to other editors, not a general viewing audience. Editors are GOING to notice the things that I pointed out and they're GOING to be more critical of it than the normal animu fans.
I can't critique a video as an animu fan because I'm an editor first. The level of editing has been wonderfully increasing over the years and people ARE getting better. This quality of editing would have been considered excellent a few years ago. And it's sad that with all that, and 720p video and wonderful effects and plenty of old videos to reference and study, that editors like this continue to have less and less to say, until it becomes absolutely nothing at all. And that's what this video was for me. Just a large group of people with absolutely nothing to say.

I liked some of the tracks! About the ergo proxy track i just love eye candy!
But the music mix was horrible :/ it felt more like different kinds of track mashed into one amv!
Maybe next time spend some more time on the music too
I liked it! 3.6/5
