While the video doesn't exactly move me to tears, it does leave me a little on the sad side.
Bakadeshi's right about the video. It does feel a little rough around the edges. At the same time, I'm not convinced this is a bad thing. Unless I'm entirely misreading the song, it's supposed to feel raw and harsh. The austere editing style strongly accentuated this, with nothing beyond hard cuts and fades. The combination very effectively forced a focus on the theme.
The only major bone to pick I have is that your focus may be a bit overbroad. I think you could have done better working with maybe half of the relationships you touched on. Some recieved rather short shrift, like Sakura and Ino.

Well, I hate rap, and I hate Naruto, but after I saw a bunch of people say nice things about this, I just couldn't help myself. I took the plunge and downloaded this video.
Terrific video! I agree with the others about the editing being rough around the edges, but also like the others, the song kept me engrossed so much that I didn't care. Since I haven't seen much of anything from Naruto outside of other AMVs, I don't understand some of the more minor relationships you showed. Still, the mood of this video was great just from what I did know as well as just the scenes you picked.
I have to say... I don't think I'll ever like rap and/or hip hop, but if I have to listen to something from that genre, this is definitely the sort of thing I'd go for. Great job - and do me a favor and compliment the young lady doing the vocals as well. ^_~

Otohiko: Yeah, I've been collecting those statues/kits for years now, and I must say, totalling up the amount I spent over that time is pretty horrendous. Let's not go into it =P.
kain2983: Thanks! Glad you thought so!
blaku92 & shinodude: Yeah, I can see where you are coming from, for sure. A lot of commercial hip hop nowadays gives a poor portrayal of hip hop as a whole. I too, find it difficult to even stomach most of the stuff on the radio, but there are definitely some breath-taking lyricists out there still that help remind me why I got into hip hop in the first place. Thanks for giving this video a chance! =)
Melanchthon: Ah, thanks for the tips on Lagarith and Avisynth! I am not too comfortable with scripts, but I guess I can always try learning =P. And you like the Count kit!!! Awesome =). Are you familiar with the story at all?
megaman917: Nice to meet a fellow hip hop head! AND I WOULD BE HONORED if you showed it to your anime club. Are you in hs or college? And yah, you know what? I never thought about giving a title to the video, but I've been noticing that most of all the other videos on this site do =P. Hehe, thanks for letting me know.
Bakadeshi: No. Your words made ME smile! Thank you so much. I couldn't be more flattered!
Kalium: Hey Kalium! Glad to see that you ended up watching the video after all those questions I asked in the Video Software Forum. I enjoyed reading your analysis on the editing style, especially about the ending. And yeah, I was a little concerned that I was chugging too many stories into one amv, but since I don't do amv's too often, I wanted to try and include all my favorite scenes in one bang! And as you can probably tell, Rock, Haku, and Chouji are actually my favorite characters so I had to give some good attention to them (even though Rock's "story" in this particular video was a bit of a stretch). I think overall, when I came up with this amv idea, the first relationship that popped into my mind was Zabuza and Haku, and actually, I edited that scene to the music first, before I did anything else. =P
Rurounikeitaro: Hahah. You know? My partner and I have been debating putting "So Long" on our myspace for a while now, but we feel like we don't want to give away too much of the album otherwise peeps might lose some incentive to get it =P. And in general, "Drift Away" is the single that sort of "sells" our CD to people so we figured that might be enough. WE DID, however, put "So Long" right after "Drift Away" on the album so people will hear it more often =P. I have a pretty strong attachment to the song. Hehe. BUT YES, if I ever decide to upload that song to our myspace, I'll let you know! What is your username over there? Send us a friend request =).
dj_ultima_the_great: Well considering you hate rap AND Naruto, I must say that I'm very happy that you liked the amv! Hehe. And I will DEFINITELY pass your word on to my partner. Actually, I should just send her this thread because I'm sure she would like to read what all of you have said.
Thanks again for all the kind words and criticism. I get so excited after work to come home and read them =P.

Obligatory EADFAG link. This page and the next one will get you started on scripts and the program you'll be using with them, and this page will give you something useful to do with your new knowledge.DirectDK wrote:Ah, thanks for the tips on Lagarith and Avisynth! Nope, not at all. I don't much like the style of the anime (especially the way the blood's drawn), but I might check the manga out sometime. I like the way it's drawn, but I want to extend my anime collection a bit first. Also, I don't have to slice a DVD up to make a vid.And you like the Count kit!!! Awesome =). Are you familiar with the story at all?

I'm in college and the new treasurer for my anime club. As far as the title for this video; "So Long" suits it just fine.DirectDK wrote:megaman917: Nice to meet a fellow hip hop head!
