You probably need two heads when looking at this AMV [YOKO]

Oh wow, a thoughtful reply and I missed it. But now I shall
take advantage of this serendipitous bump.
although every decision can be justified, I don't think
it necessarily should be justified (i.e. explained). But then
again, it's an optional thing, a personal preference.
making the editing choices to be self-evident. I don't
even bother with titles anymore, let alone explanations.
than on "flow", which is really the only type of appreciation
one can have for showing 120 scenes a minute.

I like the cut of your jib! My only remark on this is that,Douggie wrote:I believe that as an editor you have to justify every cut you do, every effect you put in, even if you do things on improvisation, on feeling (which is a lot actually) - EVENTUALLY you have to know why you've done things at that moment and whether it works or not.

The fact is, my recent AMV endeavours lean towardsI actually never saw long explanations of AMV's which explains scenes in detail- if you have some links then I would really love to see them (just to see how other editors think!).

Agreed! That's why I find it hard to critique videos otherI don't know if people actually like this video - I'm bordering on a 3.3 average... ADD-oriented stuff...lol, that's a good description! It seems that people have short attention span nowadays - like only 1/2 a second! But seriously, stuff that goes that fast, I just can't see what happens!

This really has a 3.3 average?
at the org.
A change of mood for an ending is also very effective for making it memorable and final. But that's a whole nother story, and it probably wouldn't have worked here.

That's just the thing though. When the whole AMV's already made you think A LOT, I like the ending to make you feel a bit more. You're really close, but YOKO just doesn't show enough emotion on the actual character's faces and body movement, especially considering the emotion of the song. Steadier Mind feels like it's just missing a few final clips. A proverbial nail in the coffin, so to speak (and for lack of a better metaphor). Thanks for the comments Greggus! Could you elaborate more on a climatic ending? I always like endings that make you think, because those ending make you want to see the movie/AMV/etc. again, but you're right, you always need to work to a certain climax. It's just too bad - as an AMV editor you're always dependent on the material...

Thnx its good to know I reflect FXwhore onto peopleDouggie wrote:To be honest, when I heard that you were in the jury, I thought you were a specialFX-whore and that I would made it as one of the last!
You shouldn't be concerned with the people at cons like that. All they ever see are naruto video's and so forth. Remember F.E.A.R. at Acon? "WMM I tell you!" "That's not a music video gets a 2!" "I don't see any special effects!". Just take my word for it that comments you got were not far off from that.Do you have any more of the bad reactions of the audience? I'd love to hear them!
Yup noticed and noted so now send me a beta of your next installment. As for the masking, I've changed a few parts, so if you downloaded it, you see that it looks better. Thanks for the advice! (seems I didn't use feather at all at 2 of the parts - don't know how that happened!).
