Aww, I thought you were gonna show me this again after Kalium's had his way with the text (and before release). :P

I do like this video a lot. But more than that, I like how you're not afraid of experimenting and taking risks with your editing. Unlike others, you actually take the time and effort to branch out and try new things, and that's definitely something to be commended.

So that's what it reminded me of. Yes, it does look quite a bit like the opening of Gankutsuou.

So I heard this video has testicular cancer.

While the effect work is interesting, I felt it really had no place in a fantasy story like the one presented, and after a while the constantly shifting borders that were nothing more than that got on my nerves. If they had played a role in perhaps perception of the characters, or otherwise were actively invovled in the telling itself in some way, it would have kept my attention throughout the whole thing. The text style also seems more appropriate to a horror story.

It actually wasn't a border, I created the constantly changing paper first, and then overlayed the video ontop of that with a type of blending mode that allowed the texture to imprint into the video, I forgot which one I used exactly, But its supposed to look like old paper. The text style also is supposed to look like slightly washed out text with the ink smudging on the paper, like it would in a very old book, hence why I went with that style. Probably the reason it looks kinda like a border is because Whisper of the heart is 16:9 and tutu is 4:3, so it couldn;t fill anymore of the screen than It did. That aside though, I also wanted it to fade out the edges like illustrations often did in those older books.

I really, really liked the look that you gave the video, but other than that it didn't hold my attention very well.

Where's the twist ending? Where's the OMG, I wasn't expecting that.

You said that which will break the spell will claim your life....

So she dances.....and doesn't die....and the raven simply retreats?

Sure you are limited by footage, but comeon.

I would have the duck person dancer die for him, as to fultfil the expression "that which will break the spell may claim your life" (I don't remember the phrase by heart.

Then she is simply resurrected or something through the power of "love". I know you only spent 3 days and did a great job with effects and all that jazz, but I don't believe your story line was as well supportive of your video skills. The thing I recommended would require much editing/rotoscoping/whatever you wanna call it, but I do believe this "story" would have a greater impact and may have won more awards.

Go ahead and flame me seeing how crappy I am, but I just want you to see that your skills have shown that when you put more time and effort and thought into your videos, they durastically increase in popularity and acceptance.

I'm going to say that this is one of my favorite videos. I love this genre of AMV.

I would flame as usual but I actually tried telling a fairy tale like this in a video once and quit after I couldn't get it to work so your attempt interested me enough to give it more than cursory attention.

The story was too simplistic and relied too much on text. If the story were in pure text it would have taken all of 30 seconds or so to read. Stretching a 30 second story out to four minutes ends up just being boring. You relied entirely too much on text and the video portion didn't flow well. If you took out the text and just watched the video then you'd barely catch that there was a story, even a simplistic one. Along with that the video was little more than straight 'lyric sync' with the text. Which means I didn't really gain anything at all by watching the story that I wouldn't have gotten if I just read a text file.

I think it would have worked better, and actually been less like a text file with pictures and music in the background, if you used text to setup a scene then just allowed the video to show what happened without explanation. For example you use text to tell us 'the girl helps the knight' but you didn't need to, the video clearly showed that. You started to do this towards the middle of the video then you ruin it by telling us 'valiantly the knight fights'. Yeah, we know, we just spent the last 30 seconds watching it fer christ sake. Way to pull my attention off the video and focusing on the text when you could have just kept my attention on the video and showed me what happened instead. Use text to tell us information not contained in the video. At another spot you have someone pop up out of nowhere to say 'the prince is under a spell'. Who the fuck is that, why is she helping the girl, and why does she know shit about the spell? This is where text could have enhanced the flow and presented info not in the video, even if it were a simple 'They found the wicked witch of the west who said...'

The effect made the text look way too static and unvaried. I strongly suspect it would have looked better if you used the effect for 5 or 10 seconds to indicate we're reading a story in a book then knocked it the fuck off until the end for another 5 or 10 seconds to simulate closing the book and returning back to 'reality'.

Overall I admire that you finally did something that doesn't remind me of the wondertwins but this video just didn't work.

good concept, poor execution. Found it very difficult to watch the whole video due to boredom. The music may as well have not been there at all as it was no way connected to the actual vid :/
