Epic Macross collection?

It seems so. This spurts out massive amounts of nostalgia and atmosphere, and you got those aspects totally right, which looks like is what you were aiming for. There's just alot of doubts in my head while watching this that it could've been better. First, the scene selection seemed a tad random to me, especially with all the differences in quality. I had to read the description to get what it's all about and propably enjoy it more - which is fine, as it's incredibly hard to get such a thing across.
Second, crossfades. You picked those scenes so carefully, it generates a superb flow, only to get mopped out by massive amounts of long fades. Maybe it's just my mindset that a fade is just a weak excuse of not getting two scenes to fit to each other, but I really thought that a hard cut would've worked considerably better in a couple of places. Pretty much all of your videos have lots of fades, so it's propably your style and to your liking, but I really think it takes away alot of enjoyment of this one.

I still liked it alot. Stupid stuff about fades and whatnot doesn't bring down this atmosphere.

Second is better then third :P

I agree, it could've been better, but then it would be a completely different video in my mind. I went into it expecting something bigger but ended up having to accept that it wasn't going to be as big as i hoped. I can assure you though, each scene was placed for a reason. The damn video took so long simply because I couldn't find the right scenes, lmao. I definitely feel that those who aren't familiar with all the shows, even more so Macross 7, will feel like something is missing or the scenes that I chose feel random. But I definitely put a lot of thought into it and I'm sorry they feel random.

Crossfades: lmao... yea, its more of a style thing for me. I'd have to disagree with you on your mindset that fades are an excuse for not getting two scenes to match. I think if you have two scenes that don't match, using a fade isn't going to change that or make it much better, it'll still be noticeable. I like using fades because, at least for me, it helps keep me focused and helps things flow along, at least for a video like this, imo. To me the song doesn't facilitate making straight cuts over fades. I can see where I could've used straight cuts at the end where the action is, but, I decided on shorter fades between the scenes simply because it flowed a lot better imo. To kinda give people my mindset, and no offense to Jay, but i didn't really like his all cut/no fades video all that much. For the most part it was fine, but there were those times it just kills me to not see a fade in there at certain points and it ruins it.

I'm a fade whore i guess :o but i'm trying to change my style to use more straight cuts when needed. Ultimately, it's really down to how it looks and if a straight cut wont do it and a fade will, the fade wins :P

Anyway, thank you JCD, I really appreciate the comments and i'm glad you liked it.

The Quality wasnt much better? strange. :?: and no you dont need to i've already seen it and given it a op.

Phew, that was...nice.

I think a lot of people in this thread are overdoing the praise thing a lot though, I mean nowadays it feels like a bombardment of excellent videos (technically and concept-wise) are going down on us every day. This was more of a typical nice a-m-v.org drama video just a bit longer than the rest of 'em.

Which also always makes me complain about people complaining, I mean, the length? Really? I've said this in about every thread where an AMV uses a song longer than 6mins: how can you be so ADD? Isn't that rather more embarassing for you than for the creator?

Well back to the video, I'm also one of the people that hasn't seen much of Macross, mainly because it just isn't something I'm interested in content-wise. And I also usually detest Anime music, but this one was actually tolerable, it was still nerdy but the nostalgic and sentimental feeling definately reached me. On the technical side I'd pretty much second what JCD said about the crossfades. In your video info you're complaining about not having enough room to fit in characters and yet you have these really long fades that just seem to show almost still images of people watching the skies...I mean, it's not like you couldn't have picked up the pace a bit there.

In overall I'd say when it comes to your goals for this video they've been reached, but personally I'd rather watch a detailed 7min video on a single show of these so that it could create a bit more depth for the people that don't know what the fuck all of those scenes really 'mean'.

I think the reason Minmei's lip sync worked for me while his didn't was because Minmei actually has a microphone when we see her, so it comes off as much more natural.

I likey muchly. Mad props for how you edited the audio together \o/

I had the same apprehension at first about the time too, but I didn't look away at all :O

Granted I've never seen Macross, but I didn't how much of it you'd used until I saw the credits, and for me it all seemed really well connected.

Admittedly, I haven't seen most of the Macross series that's in this video. Despite that, I absolutely enjoyed watching this AMV. I haven't really seen many Macross vids that focus mainly on the more dramatic side of the shows.

Obvious lies.

and deceit.

Next time, there won't be any cuts or fades. Just one long scene.
