This video is puzzling to me. Your choice of cutting certain parts of the song really sabotages the video imo.
You let us have the long intro, building to something, which I liked. Sets the mood, concept, you know what you're in for.
Then we jump into the 2nd verse of the song, and it feels like we just skipped ahead 30 minutes of a movie. WTF is this? I know that song (believe me) and I spent most of that 2nd verse trying to adjust to where we were. You can't have a long leisurely prolog, skip Act I and jump right into Act II. Theres a reason you've NEVER heard a structure like that on the radio. It violates the most basic rules of pacing.
Then we get our first chorus and the concept has established itself (which I liked), and I feel its lazy. That chorus is HUGE, BIG, and DRAMATIC, and most of it is a still shot of a dudes bleeding eye. I was hoping something appropriately BIG would happen on that section and it didn't happen.
I actually enjoyed the lyric synch the most during the verses, as they had a nice ebb and flow to them. The 2nd chorus again, while I enjoyed the contrast of her knifing the guy under "I never wanted this" wasn't up to par. I found myself wanting to enjoy the section, clearly seeing what you were going for, and not digging it. It was dull, not fast enough, not special enough.
AND THEN you cut out the BIG GUITAR CLIMAX! What were you thinking?! Its only 15 seconds long, don't tell me you didn't have enough footage for it. Do you just not like that part of the song? Its like you made a video with Stairway to Heaven and used only the first 3 minutes of it. Dude, who signed off on that? That is the PEAK of the song.
The next section of "superstar/superfuck baby" I enjoyed as the plot reaches its conclusion, but again a lot of the editing felt lazy. I also thought you faded out of the song way to early. The video ends with a whimper and a "oh... ok, thats the end I guess". You could have had a real ENDING had you let the song run to its natural end.
Overall: Good idea, if an obvious one for AMVers who know every frame of Perfect Blue. Undercooked, with horrible pacing. Needs more work.
Edit: After reviewing my thoughts, it reads very harshly. I want to make clear I enjoyed the parts listed, and would give it a 3/5.
