Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
- Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
- Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
- When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
- Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Um... still not getting it... Of course you don't make videos in order to make people stop. You make videos in order to advance the state of the art and make the most powerful statement/video you can. If it makes people's heads explode (so to speak), dude, you have done your job and then some.
If people literally quit, that's their own psychological problem and certainly no fault of yours. They shouldn't take it so seriously. Should the 1337 hold back because it hurts the feelings of the mediocre? Pfft. If nobody innovated we'd all be making Linkinball Z videos with two VCRs.

Sometimes the most simple things can be the most powerful. One of my favorite videos of all time has to be MJ's "Liquid Petals," and he made that with Windows Movie Maker. Windows Movie Maker! No special effects! No overlays or transparencies! Nothing but linear editing! Advancing an artform does not always mean using the most special effects, or having the prefect lip sync, or the best quality footage. It just means expanding the boundaries, and in my opinion, that happens everytime a new song is written, a new anime is realeased, and a new person joins this site.
I don't make videos to explode people's heads. I make my videos because I have an idea, and I want to project that idea into a tangable form. It's just like if someone writes a song or paints a picture. I hope that people like them, and I would enjoy receiving awards for them, but that's not the reason I make AMVs.
I never said anything about not innovating, and I'm not disagreeing that someone quitting over my video is mostly their fault. Mostly, because it was my video that caused this change in them in this hypothetical situation. Let's paint another picture (Purely hypothetical!): What if MJ told me at AWA that the video I made astounded him to the point where he felt he couldn't keep up, and was going to quit? Do you have any idea what that would do to me? I mean, MJ! And it was my video!
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I would be distraut if someone told me a video of mine caused them to stop making videos. On the flip side of the coin, I have had people tell me that one of my videos helped inspire them to start making AMVs. Let me tell you, that made my WEEK! THAT is the ultimate compliment, not someone saying you caused them to stop.

I see your point. Still, I hold everybody responsible for their own actions, and if they want to quit I see it as a fault of theirs, not the 1337ly AMVer's. Kind of the Helter Skelter effect, only, of course, milder.
And sure it's better to inspire people... eh. I guess I kind of assumed that you guys were out to explode people's heads. Personally as a peon, I make videos because I have them running in my head and it makes me happy to see 'em for real. 'Cause I'm an idiot, of course. But I figured things were different up there in the uber1337 stratosphere. Where AMVers are artistes and not just hacks with too much time on their hands.
Those interviews scarred me; does it show?
Of course I know people's favorites can be simple. Over the past week I've watched one in my stash a few times that's got to be eh, three years old? Something? I don't think there are any effects in it at all. But most people slag that kind of stuff, scorn it, say it's a waste of time and go back to their own AfterEffects'ed rotoscopic masterpieces. I personally like a lot of the straightforward videos, but I keep it to myself, figuring it's a sign of my own mediocrity. So thanks for exposing that shameful little secret. ^_^;;
Speaking of which, I'm talking way too much for an editor who sucks so bad. You guys are, like, famous. :X

Yeah, I can see what you mean with the Helter Skelter effect, but just for someone to say "Your video made me realize how much I suck!" would make me depressed.SarahtheBoring wrote:I see your point.
