Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
- Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
- Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
- When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
- Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

I like this poast :3AtomX wrote:Not to de-rail the thread, but as far as the whole "inner circle" thing goes (and I put high emphasis on the quotation marks), people seem to think that it's some sort of big like conspiracy or something, when in fact, we're just friends with eachother. That's all there is to it. When a friend of yours sends you an IM and says "hey I finished my video here's the link to the forum post," you're probably gonna go and post in it. That. Is. It. If you feel more comfortable using the term "clique" or "circle," whatever. But the vast majority of us are good people who enjoy good AMV's regardless of who makes them.
That being said, yeah, I agree that if this hadn't been Jay's video, the likelihood that the thread would've grown this big so fast is quite low, and I'm sure Jay understands that. But again, people know him, and thusly it's bound to draw an audience. It doesn't mean that videos that don't get 6 pages of replies within a day suck or are any less deserving. It's just the nature of the beast.

I wanna add in on this since this is a topic I've become super super self-conscious about(especially in my last video), but that tension just may be a factor that as either an editor or someone that's become really familiar with the mechanics behind AMVs, that you might be paying a little bit too much attention to the editing, therefore you automatically set expectations on how the cuts/timing "should" be, and when those expectations aren't met, it'll probably upset you a little.vivaldiscool wrote:As to the thing about cross fades, I do see how it's mimicing the series, and it didn't really feel that off kilter since usually it landed on a subbeat, but since the cuts were unpredictable and sharp, it gave a feeling of tension. A fade can be used to ease and release the tension, but, while there was a few, it just felt like a couple extra here and there would ease things up.
I see natural as well... natural. I feel like it's the subtlety of the cuts in this video that kinda gave the scenes playing an extra *umph* or something. I mean, as long as the video itself is playing along with the song, is timing cuts to the beats really necessary(if not a tad bit distracting)? That's another thing, 99% of AMVs I've seen, transitions are mostly placed to match a beat or musical section, and most of the time it just doesn't feel natural b/c there is a "mess" of video overlaps in that short period. I'm not saying transitions are bad, but if they were used discreetly, that would be nice. At least in my book. I mean, I want to watch an anime music video, not a transitions music video.(really bad analogy, but gets the main point across)
Again, this topic has been bothering me for awhile recently so that was just my hypothesis/two cents right there. Now, I'll just move along.

It was good. Took me time to get into it and try not to let the straight cutting disturb but in a way it really added to the clips' actual content. That was really full emphasis of mood sync :3 I propably would have liked it better with cross-fading and "smoother" transitions as it's more to my liking, but it was nice this way too
The video could have been story-wise more coherent though. There was very little sense of continuation in the scenes, which kinda made the emotional impact lesser for me =| But you got the mood sync spot-on

Really cool and simple video which catches the nature of Ef in the best way.Lyrics-wise the song truly fits Chihiro to the fullest and the approach of direct cuts gave more tension, hence more interest to a story which (for me at least) is well-known.
5/5
Truth be told,I have enjoyed your simple videos much more than those full of effects and masks.Keep it simple, keep it going as they say.And with the Ef's unique animation and beautiful colors,no need for fancy effects...
