My First AMV :) Eureka Seven - Find Me

Post by Gito » Mon Apr 16, 2012 3:49 am

I've always loved watching AMV's and only just recently decided to try my hand at it. Coincidentally, I just finished watching Eureka Seven when I made this decision and as it has now become one of my favorites, felt it very fitting to organize a video around Renton and Eureka :) Some mild spoilers may be evident, so if you're in the middle of watching the series/move or intend to, view discretion is advised :P

I'd really love some feedback/opinions if possible. I had a blast working on this one and I'd like to get even more involved. Pointers would be a godsend at this point. I've only posted it on YouTube though; I haven't (don't know how to) made it available for download at this point in time. The link is below and on my profile.

The song is Find Me by Boyce Avenue and I used Windows Live Movie Maker to put it all together.

Thanks for your time!

I really like the song that you used for this couple. It matches the mood of their relationship really well. I just think that your video needs more sync in order to maintain a better flow and keep the viewer interested from start to finish. This guides does a great job at explaining the different kinds of sync and what they are good for http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/v ... =2&t=92942

Anyway, for a first AMV, this is definitely better than most. You're off to a good start in terms of concept, so keep it up

And if want to learn how to upload your videos here, Radical Yue made a video tuturial for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fqnI-XmWuQ
and this video tells you how to announce them

you can use the vidid option to have your video appear like this.

Thanks for the info and review, I really appreciate it! It's hard as hell to get any kind of feedback when the AMV is of an anime that came out 5 years ago =/ I understand what you mean with the sync too, I agree. There are parts that kind of just...sit there, Lol, I'm working on it. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of options with Windows Live Movie Maker, not much more than just the transitions. There are a few spots I'd like to touch up on soon.

Again, thanks a lot for taking the time to watch my AMV and giving me some pointers :)

You used some really good transitions in the beginning but seemed to fall short towards the end. I LOVE EUREKA SEVEN. So i naturally magnetized my eyes to the screen no matter the AMV. But you chose all the right scenes, so that was good. One thing i notice is that when their lips move, you automatically assume that they're trying to lip-sync to the song. If some of their "lip-flapping" was cut out, it would've made the video appear a lot better.

Overall I enjoyed this AMV! Makes me wanna speed up my encoding and upscaling so I can make AMVs again.

I'm learning it's not as simple as simply finding the right scenes and timing them together nicely Lol I'll keep that in mind. I was actually thinking about putting another one together here soon since I've got a few days off from work. I'll try to incorporate some of the things you guys mentioned. Hopefully I'll be successful :) Thanks for all the help by the way!

It's certainly way better that my first AMV!! ;P It's cute. :)

It's true there are some parts that just "sit there" as you said that could have been cut more/sooner. It's a super hard thing about AMVs when you want to continue the scene because you like it or it seems to almost fit perfectly and you just don't want to cut it, but you should! I always had this problem (and sometimes even still do), but as you edit more videos you'll gain a better idea of where and what to cut in order to sync it up to the music, mood, lyrics, etc. But really you did a pretty good job with this, the anime looks interesting and I'm almost tempted to go watch it now!

Also agreed on the lip flap, and I would suggest making all the clips in your next video one size instead of jumping between wide/fullscreen/letterbox, etc. Oh and if you're unhappy with Windows Movie Maker (I can see why you may be, that thing put me thru hell for like a year o_O) and want to try something new with more options you can look into Sony Vegas or Premiere. :)

Good luck on your next one! xD

Thank you ! :D Unfortunately, I'm a bit of romantic so I love doing what I can to bring a little more justice to relationships like theirs, even if it's just for me :P I'm actually thinking of doing one for Guilty Crown next. I would look into Sony Vegas and Premiere, but funds are kind of tight, maybe sometime soon though. (I don't want to pirate them =/ ) Thank you for your kind words though, I definitely appreciate it! I'm glad my first is getting such great reviews despite my noobie mistakes :P Hopefully the next will be on another level! I have something I want to test with Windows Movie Maker that might be able to give the illusion of a better editing soft ware :) We'll see! Thanks again!

you could download a free trial of Vegas. *Just remember to render your video before your trial is over*

Thanks for all of the suggestions, :) I appreciate it. I'm testing out a few trials now to see how things go. Whatever I do decide to do, I'll let you all know. Currently working on my second AMV now, so I'm excited about getting it done and getting it posted. Looking to see if I can take a few improved steps :P Thanks again for being so nice to the newbie :P
