End of Evangelion AMV
Hey everybody,
This is my first AMV, and I'm completely new to everything involved with the process. I would love to improve my ability to produce high-quality videos, so your feedback is very valuable to me.
The song that goes with the video is quite provocative, as it explores the role of pain and loss in the human experience. I found myself thinking about The End of Evangelion when listening to it due to the film's exploration of broken people. The video focuses on the angst of Shinji Ikari and his eventual break down. It also explores what I believe the film is saying about getting past traumatic experiences like that.
I really want to improve, so please leave comments regarding your thoughts on my video. Feel free to criticize any mistakes or annoyances you found.
Thanks for watching!!

Not bad as first. Turned out more like parody than serious imo, but that's not bad thing i guess.

Thanks for the response!
I'm assuming you interpreted the lyrics as tongue in cheek, which is certainly valid. I always thought the song was being serious, but you're right; the whole thing may be straight sarcasm, changing the intention of my video.
I enjoy that sort pf ambiguity of though. It's something I don''t see enough of in Christian artists.

Re: End of Evangelion AMV
I was not expecting to like this very much, to be honest, but I always like to see new editors asking for honest feedback so they can improve, so I decided to watch the video. The fact that you used a Christian artist also interested me, especially given the anime source you chose, so I was intrigued.
For a first video, I've seen a lot worse. You got plenty of things right -- the general mood, a lot of the scene selection, the more minimal editing style. I liked it for those reasons, but there were also several things that you could have done better. For starters, there were too many instances of really cheesy lyric sync. For a song/anime combo like this, it can be tempting to go the literal route when choosing your scenes, but it's probably not a very good idea most of the time, and I wish you had held back more. Also, while I love EoE, you have to realize that it's such an overplayed source at this point in time -- literally every single second of every single scene from that movie has found its way into at least one AMV over the years, so this video felt really familiar. This isn't an inherently bad thing -- another editor released an Evangelion/EoE video earlier this year and it might be my favorite video of the year so far -- but if you're not doing something really amazing with it, nine times out of ten it's going to fall by the wayside.
Still, you've got a good start, especially from a conceptual standpoint. It's hard to say whether or not you have a hang of the technical side of editing yet as the song you chose didn't really require a whole lot of precise sync...this video is very loosely synced, but it works for this video so it'll be interesting to see how you'd handle a more upbeat song. Looking forward to more from you
