Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Gankutsuou AMV to Alphaville

Post by wuslogic » Sat Jul 08, 2006 1:01 am

It is a great video that tells a story and - due to the fact that I didn't really use the story from the anime - it is a story with no spoilers.

Feast upon my video at http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=122366

Enjoy.

Why .mov? How about a nice AVI, unless its supposed to lag that much, otherwise it only seems to be this video, my other .mov files play fine.

Sorry?

Can't say I know what you are talking about. I am a mac user and have never had any problems viewing .mov. That fact that I now choose to keep my movies in that format is because when I had it in .avi format they still complained. Now that I have it in a .mov, I've recieved fewer complaints.

Maybe the lag is coming from your ram speed? Have a gig or so?

That was pretty good....now I must go out and get more of the series.

Taken directly from the video description (hope you don't mind) and bolded for emphasis:
"It is in a .mov format ala AAC and H.264"

There's the problem. Macs that come capable of playing H.264 with Quicktime are pretty high-end. Partly due to the fact that Quicktime is not as fast at decoding H.264 as other solutions are, especially on Windows. ffdshow and CoreAVC both work far faster with it (mplayer and VLC for your cross-platform solutions would work faster than QT would too), and also support High Profile to boot.

Luckily, Haali's Media Splitter can handle MOV files now too, so if you can play H.264-encoded MP4 or MKV files in Windows Media Player without problems, you shouldn't have any problems with this MOV if you try to play it in WMP (although I'd highly recommend trying it in mplayer2.exe rather than whatever version of WMP they're up to now). Media Player Classic's not a sure bet since it pipes out Quicktime's output for MOV if Quicktime is present on the system (although that can be turned off and use Haali's Splitter+ffdshow or CoreAVC, I'm sure).

Otherwise, just throw it through MKVToolNix (or YAMB) and play it as an MKV (or MP4) instead.

Thanks Qyot27.

I don't know anything about how Windows works and so I can't tell people how to solve their problems outside of my OSX. Nowadays, after the flaming I got for some of my other videos when I tried to be helpful with the codecs, putting them into .mov is just easier.

So, if anyone has difficulty running the AMV, Qyot27 seems to be on top of the game at this point.

There is a program that will allow you to convert from mov to other formats most of the Org is used to. It is called D-Volution. It can be found here.

Enjoy!
