Post by jdc1217 » Mon Aug 28, 2006 9:09 pm

Take a look at this video and let me know how I did. I think most of you will like it but I know there will be some people who might not but I am thinking they will like it.

lots of action... never seen the anime before

Next time try and relax with scene changing. An unexpected break from all the action could give the scenes after it big boost in power stuff.

Like Starcraft you need good macro, but macro is made up of micro, so maybe you just need a lot more micro.

8/10

While you vid has some downfalls, all in all it's pretty decent. I intend on writing an op, but I wanted to add a few of the highlights in here as well. When I saw the codec you used I was thinking this video would just be Movie Maker, but a lot of the effects that were used in your video are not your average default effects, I know rehan and a few others have developed split screen video, panning a zooming effect, but I was wondering if you used a different video editor and encoded the finalized version in WMV3, or if you used Movie Maker combined with something else, like After Effects? I noticed that in your profile you said that you use Vegas, did you make the video then encode with WMV3?

Bleach + Papa Roach + Action is always a winning combination, but not very original. No prob. I usually don't worry about originality considering it's pretty much guaranteed that most things aren't original anymore. Besides, if one likes a video what does it matter?

Video - No matter how good of quality your video starts out at, I've noticed WMV always reduces the quality, usually because it's native resolution is crap, so if you attempt to view a video encoded in such a way it pixelates somewhat in full screen.

Effects - Some pretty well place effects in the vid as far as the split screening goes. I do agree with the previous statement though, a calm moment in the middle would have gone a long way toward creating a more powerful feeling to the fast paces sequence. I've found that being bombarded by action scenes from start to finish in a vid desensitizes me so that the AMV becomes dull after the first minute and a half. I can see you attempted compensating for this by adding effects at key moments towards the end to keep it interesting. However, a break in the action with what I like to call the primary explosive scene following right after can be the most breathtaking event in a video.

Audio - It's audio, it's a half-way decent song and it had only minimal distortion at extremely high volume. Nothing wrong here.

Sync - Everything matched up very well, the only qualm I have is with the beginning of the video, for some reason, the video would start .5 to 1 second after were it should start, rather than start at the beginning of the vid, it started half a second after. Just for future reference, you might want to add a 1 second black bumper just before the start of your video, please note that I am using a work computer that's not the fastest in the world, since a lot of people really don't have computers that can sync video quickly, that 1 second bumper can really help. Just a suggestion. ;)

Overall - I enjoyed this video, it's not hard to find an action AMV nowadays, what's hard is finding and action AMV thats worth watching. While it might not be the next Euphoria, I definitely will keep this one around. Kudos! XD

Thank you,

Thank you for the advice and yes i use vegas 6.0 only. My prob was that it would be more than 100mb if i renedered it anything else so i did what i did to fit it on this site. So what parts are you saying that i should have a relaxed part before the big event like you said? Just let me know so i can get a better understanding of what you mean. I do know what your talking about I just want to know at what part in the video you would like to have seen it. thanks a lot for the advice.

There are a couple of different ways to encode differently. You can encode in uncompressed frames, then use virtualdub to encode into a lossless codec. I haven't tried it myself as of yet, but I know others do it all the time. I would have to play around with that to be able to give you a definite answer. Though I know there are quite a few guides on the Org that explain the process.

I went through you video again to see where you would put kind of a slower scene, keep in mind that this is just my opinion, and since I don't use Papa Roach in AMV's (due to several different reasons), that I could be way off. But I think a good slow (but powerful) scene could have been added from 2:12 to ~2:22. This is where the electric guitar starts up and where it really feels like it's building up to something. But I would listen to the song a couple more times, it might turn out that you would have put the slow scene in the most intense part of the song, which in truth, works very well sometimes if done right. The major problem with Papa Roach being thats its balls to the walls with them to whole time, not giving you a lot of option. I've actually been getting into the instrumental-metal-opera music like Nightwish and Kamelot. You want to talk about two bands that are really AMV friendly, but underrated, might want to check them out. Depends on how eclectic you are I suppose. Most of all, all you have to do is make something you like, everyone else is secondary.
