Hatori's Story
My second completed AMV.
Now, I'd like to be honest here. This video is "just average". Visual Quality, choice of music are average. But it isn't all about crap. I was sure aware about those things though before I started editing, but due to the inevitable limitations I had, I can only proceed using resources and useful stuffs that I only have. and yeah, I edited this one using WMM.
Actually, the main purpose behind the making of this video is for me to initially learn how to edit as in edit a video that is worthy to be called an AMV even in the slightest sense. To learn the basics of video editing is what I'd like to achieve in making this one.
And regarding the sources and the choice of music, well they were not carefully planned and rather easily decided. What I thought would fit the most out of the immediate options I had, I just had to agree to myself and then proceed to the actual making. And since what I was after for was just to make a simple romance/drama video, so didn't have to spend a fair amount of time on planning.

I'm always pulled into Fruits Basket videos, so I got this...
It's decent. Not great, but definitely not bad either. I think the main issue with this video is that the footage is limited (which made you start reusing scenes), and the song kind of stopped working lyrically after the first verse (which made those reused scenes just not work anyway). You probably would have done better to cut the song down. It definitely can be done, with programs that you can get for free (legally). Heck, you could even use Movie Maker to do the cuts, but your audio quality would go down after compressing the song again ultimately.
Anywho, for the first verse and chorus, I was really into this. Your lyrical sync was perfect, and your beat sync was good, too. After that, it kind of went downhill, especially since you changed some aspects of your editing. For example, you started speeding up clips a lot, and that just looked awkward in most of the parts. It picked back up during the bridge with the most dramatic part of Hatori's story, which was nice. The stuff after that looked... "stressed," so to speak. I could tell that you were running out of clips and a way to end that video.
There's always the issue of video quality, and of course it could have been better, but that's not really my concern for this video. It wouldn't hurt to read up in the AV Tech guides, mind you, but your editing should come first. Think of the video quality more as the pretty package you put on a wonderful gift. Nice, but not necessary if what's inside is better.
Still, overall, I think you did okay for what you had available. I enjoyed this, I definitely believe that you'll become a fine editor with some more practice. Just keep at it. ^_^

Wow..Thanks for taking the time to check out my video. I really appreciate it.
As for the points you've mentioned, I gotta agree with you a lot. Indeed most of them hit right on regarding the good and the bad things about the video.. =)
On the other hand, I am sure that I left out important things in my first post, so I am going to post it now...thinking it's not a bother.
The whole point of this AMV was to show lyrical sync and execute a story in a manner that it grows with the conflict while the aspect of time is considered, particularly the past and the present. The first verse and chorus were rather straightforward in execution as there was no other way that I thought is appropriate to begin the storytelling. From there I continued to build up the story more and for it to be less repetitive, I settled for mood sync at times and even go with beat sync, which I shouldn't have overdid, especially from the second verse to chorus. T
The fact that I'm aware of the very limited footage sources of fruits basket, I kinda expected problems to show up like the running out of clips, so I had to pick clips quite carefully from start to end. I used episode 8 and consume two very short clips from another episode. But why episode 8? It's because it's packed with a very solid story centering the relationship of Hatori and Kana and with Torhu's presence, then I was able to make up Hatori's past(Kana) and present(Tohru) in a story wherein the story is that of the actual episode excluding the spoiler which reveals Hator's zodiac form.
I guess that's about it.
Again, thanks and also to the one who posted before you.

I liked it bro. I liked the building intensity...
The video started slow and then as the song started to get intense, the scenes go by it as well. I wouldn't say that the pacing was great because at times I felt that you shouldn't do this and that for some parts, but lucky you that it didn't bother me that much. As for the narration, well, it was pretty well told despite some confusing parts. The literal sync in the beginning was effective, while the shift to beat/mood sync from the mid part towards the end was one step down effective, but still it worked and that I got into the story without getting lost. And about the recycling of clips, I don't think that it's good no matter how you made use of them and that goes for every video. Now for the video output quality, sure it could have been better, but I understand that you can't do very good in this area considering that you used WMM for making the video. Music quality isn't bad, I guess, but when it comes down to tastes, well, the song is good, but I can't stand listening to it over and over again. 3 Doors Down is good, but they're not my very type. Overall, a pretty good video. Sure I enjoyed it, but not as much as I enjoyed the other ones that are my favorites. But no worry here for you cuz you still did a good job. ^__^

ZOMG. I love Hatori's story. For a first AMV, I'm very impressed beyond words.
Just a few minor gripes:
Lip Flap: The scenes of lip flap in greyscale I understood, because it was showing a scene from the past, and I could understand it. But all other lip flaps were just sort of distracting.
Repeated Scenes: While it possibly the best use of repeated scenes I've seen in a while, I'd work on keeping repated scnes to a minimum.
Chorus: The first two couruses were a tad slow. I think a more emotional response during these could have been better. The third and final chorus were very well done though. I loved the connection between Tohru ande Hatori's love.
Overall, I was very impressed, mostly because I love Fruits Basket without end. in fact, I'm probably going to watch the entire series tonight before school starts.
I digress.

Thanks, dude. =)shinodude wrote:I was acully very impressed by this video cause you did a good job with the VERY VERY limited footage. god job.
Thanks, man. Actually, this is my second amv. The first one was my "For Fumoffu" AMV. And glad you liked my AMV. I'm also a super fan of Fruits Basket; that's why I made amv's for it. As a matter of fact, I'm currently making my 3rd amv, still using fruits basket, but this time I have more clips to use. An amv that shows the relationship of 3 friends, showing the ups and downs of their friendship is what I'm trying to portray in my next amv. I hope someone's willing to beta test it though. xDCodeChrono wrote:ZOMG. I love Hatori's story. For a first AMV, I'm very impressed beyond words.
