  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Endless Frontier

Post by Inaaca » Mon Mar 31, 2008 6:00 pm

After a bit of a hiatus from this forum, I'm back with a new video! This time I've finally delved into the world of action/adventure.

This video is the culmination of everything I have learned from my first two AMVs plus a step further, ranging from editing choices to timing to effects. I waited to do a high-speed video such as this because I felt it would be a greater challenge that would benefit from more experience, and I feel I made a good choice as far as that is concerned.

In regards to this video, I tried to convey the feeling and direction of Outlaw Star and the star crew as a whole. Since straight mindless action is pretty boring to me, I also wanted to give a sense of the characters progressing through a story as the video plays, even if it isn't in exact correlation with the series.

I always appreciate constructive criticism and everyone's opinions on my videos, so feel free and thank you in advance.

With all that said, I hope you enjoy the video! I had fun making it. ^^d

I've always wanted to see someone use Star One.

I'ma grab this.

Pretty sweet sync to the music, I liked it. I think the song is a tad too long and even though I love Star One, Set Your Controls just seems to drag.

But your editing was awesome and I enjoyed it.

I kinda had a feeling a few people would say it was a little long. I struggled a lot with the decision of how to cut the song down for a long time during planning, and ended up settling with this length for various reasons (which is a good minute and a half shorter or so than the full length). Even so, it's probably a little longer than average, but I'm comfortable and satisfied with the length.

Thanks a lot for the reply, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

You finished it. Good.

I don't have much to add to the discussions we've had about this AMV over at IRC, Inaaca. Overall it's a fine video even though I still dislike the numerous drum beat flashes and of course the song lenght which seems to jump out as the biggest concern around here. I would have still cut the song even shorter and leave the ending somewhat open, but this isn't me doing the editing here.

I'd say the first 2 or so minutes are this video's strongest points. The character introductions work well, the spirit of Outlaw Star is there, the song and editing works... a quite solid video in my opinion. It does on the other hand seem to drag on a bit after the best moments. The action isn't quite as motivated as it is in the beginning and the solo part almost comes off as stuffing that's there to fill the big gap before you end your story.

Not a bad AMV at all. Keep it up. You already have your eyes set on your next project?

Thanks for the feedback, always appreciated.

I do have my eyes set on my next project, but it's not an AMV. I'm going to do a music video with entirely hand-drawn animation.

I guess I can't please everybody.. There seems to be just as many people who say they won't get it if it's in mp4 format as well, so my hands are kinda tied there. Regardless, I probably will move over to mp4 with the next AMV I do, since it's supposedly the next wave of technology..

Sorry to hear ya won't be checking it out, but take care anyways.

A really neat AMV overall. The AVI was fine quality wise. I approve.
