Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

I really liked it, very simple editing style, but the cuts were done really well. I don't know what type of sync it was (I'm guessing it wasn't beat sync, maybe mood?), but it was very well done.

Hey! Thanks for commenting! :)

Yeah the editing style is fairly vanilla compared to a lot of stuffs I've seen around here, but then again, flashy editing doesn't always mean better. :P A lot of VCA winners actually feature fairly clean editing.

There are some mood sync in the video but I would say for the most part it's beat sync - not just the timing of the cuts/transitions but what goes on within the shots are synced to the beat (at least, within the best of my ability) - explosions and instrument panel flashes are all synced, and a lot of shots underwent manipulation to achieve content syncing - for example, at 3:42... if you compare this to the original Macross footage, you'll see that Sara doesn't hand Mao over to the elder right away: I chopped out a short chunk and spliced the video. Same deal at 3:58 - the JAM fighter doesn't explode underwater right away; there's a timestretch which I cut out. There are a few other shots like that - so I would say this video is more complicated to edit than it may look. :)

Are you familiar with these two anime series? What do you think of my shot selections? Once again, thanks for viewing and commenting!

What kinda of material do people use to cut their first video? o_O

In any case, couldn't help it. I like good sci-fi stories and fighter jets just really captivate my imagination. :)

Let me know what you think! ^_^ Thanks for watching!

I have to say it was challenging at first - I chose a fairly fast-paced song, which makes for tight editing by default - that's fine given that the main subject is fighter jets, but man! Was a bit clueless at first. I have cut a short film before this, which is somewhat of a music video/narrative as well but the cuts are a lot slower, as the music was much softer.

In any case I enjoyed the experience - nothing like learning from something exciting, eh? :)

Hehehe I wasn't expecting that....seriously. You did a good job or a first but yea there are a few things I could gripe about. What really got me was your flow lol Your editing really kept up to speed with the video. The sync was good and blah blah blah. I think I caught a few orphan frames but still good for a new editor. I'm a sucker for MZ footage and I can tell you put effort into this. I can't wait to see you improve :) Keep it up.
