I wonder why they used so many shots from reality in it? Does anybody know if the ocean was real or drawn? Because it looks like it could be both.

It was real. Basically, Sony had used up most of the budget, so they made a really cheap to produce episode to finish it.

It IS both. They got a shot of the ocean and layered cels over the recording. (they do this again in the OVAs)

well there was many screenshots that were in real life, personaly i think it was sorta kewl but i didnt like the ending.
