Then that person said 3 OVAs, I think they meant Trust, Betrayal, and Reflections. Which is really, 2 OVAs on 3 discs, but could be misinterpreted.

OVA means Original Video Animation. It's basically the Japanese equivalent of an American pilot episode.

Actually, Trust and Betrayal were separate OVAs at the beginning. They are still available separately as part of the 3-disc Samurai X Boxset. Here is the boxset. The boxset versions are all the uncut original versions of the three OVAs - Trust, Betrayal, and Reflection.

When Samurai X: The Movie was made, the director later recut and reedited the originals into Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal Director's Cut and Samurai X: Reflection Director's Cut to make the OVAs relate more to the movies.

OVA stands for Original Video Animation. It's generally used for straight to video releases (no theaterical or television broadcasts).

Hi there!

I just wanted to tell you that the whole Rurouni Kenshin manga (vol. 1-28) got finished in Germany TWO YEARS AGO! BWAHAHAHAAAA!! :mrgreen:

But unfortunately the Anime never got released... T.T Anyways (since there were so many questions about this topic), I just wanted to help clear things up here and give you as much info on it as I have.

The manga consists of 28 volumes and is finished. Watsuki Nobuhiro really did a great job, even though the Enishi arc got a bit weary after some time... Like, those stupid 'Four Stars'... They really sucked. o.O

The anime consists of 95 episodes. Episodes 1-94 got aired in Japan, but they stopped airing it after that 'cause the third season majorly sucked! They did a 'last' episode (95) that was supposed to be aired after the Enishi arc. The third season was made to last as filler season and give Watsuki time to end his manga - the Enishi arc wasn't finished at that time, and they couldn't do this arc without knowing how it would end, now, couldn't they? :wink: But since the third season sucked (I know I keep on repeating that) they got TONS of complaints, so they stopped the series alltogether after the 94th episode.

The OVA (Original Video Animation) are Rememberance and Reflections. Rememberance contains two parts (Trust and Betrayal) and tells of Kenshin's life as Hitokiri in the Bakumatsu era/war. And of his first wife, Yukishiro Tomoe. They changed things from the manga there, but that's ok. It fitted the story well. Reflections is set 15 years after the end of the manga, I think. Kenshin is REALLY OOC (out-of-character) there, 'cause he left his wife Kaoru and went wandering again. That's why their son Kenji hates him. I can understand that... v.v It's sad, Kenshin gets a disease, infects Kaoru (nice bedroom scene!! X3) and leaves again. He caught amnesia too! But in the end there's that -heartbreaking- scene where he falls into Kaoru's arms and finally remembers her name!! :cry: I was all in tears when I first watched it...

The movie (Requiem for the Ishinshishi) looks like just another one of those over-long TV episodes... It's about one hour long, and I was glad when it was finally over... v.v;

As for the DVDs, I found some nice boxes wich contain all 95 TV episodes with japanese and english dub, and english subtitles on eBay! And it was really cheap too!! I mean, if you want to buy one of those boxes in Germany you have to pay, like, 120 € (about 140 $). But in the US I could get them for about 80 $ including s/h, so it was a really good deal for me! The OVA are available in box-sets, too. The movie is only separately available.

And if the Manga, Anime, OVA and the movie weren't yet enough Kenshin for you, you can still go to www.fanfiction.net and read some FanFiction there! FanFiction are stories written by Fans (no Duh!), and there are really good works out there!

I hope this helps a bit... ^_^

Uh, yeah, I forgot to ask something...

How much does a Kenshin Manga cost in the US, or anywhere in the world? A german one costs 5 €, that's about 6 US$. Each time I look Kenshin stuff up on eBay I see people selling -used- Kenshin Manga for 8 $ and go like WTF???

^_^;

Used manga for $8?? :shock: Amazon.com's list price for the manga is $7.95.

Wow. What a lot of detail. (The third season stank that much, huh?) I do remember hearing something about Kenshin being rather out of character in one of the OVAs.
