Horray!!! I got a post made!
So anyway, one of the major things I hear people talking about it that this series is a slap in the face to the original and how A.K. is rolling over.
I happen to think it is a wonderful series, yes taking liberties in the plot, but in doing so makes the characters deeper and enriching the entire experience.
Am I alone in this or do the majority of people find this series abysmal? As I had to actually request this thread to be put up, and we are already on the 4th disk released in america, I have this sad feeling that it is the latter.

Well, if you are adapting a 3 hour feature film to a 26 episode TV series, you are going to have to add things and expand the storyline. Characters are bound to have differences because of the actors portraying them are different people with different interpretations of the characters. Taken at its own merits, Samurai 7 is a good series. I just wish the animation was more consistent.
Hey, the Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV series is pretty different from the original movie, too.

I've only gotten to see the first episode (on a magazine cover disc) but it was damned good. I like the characters that are introduced so far and I think the plot has been nicely adapted into an anime series.
I like that they started off on a "cool note" by having the experianced samurai cut an airship in half!

Well, yes, but in that case it was the movie that was a pervesion of the original Joss Whedon script. So much so that the series, which is technically set after the movie, completely disregards what took place in it! At least Samurai 7 makes no apologies for 're-imagining' the Kurosawa classic.Willen wrote:Hey, the Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV series is pretty different from the original movie, too.

Ive been watching every single one that comes out so far..fifth dvd is almost out soon. I think somewhere in march 20-30th somewhere in there. But anyways first dvd is pretty great, second is good but not great, third is great and the fourth was easily the best and had tons of great fighting and stuff like that. Its a great series, it starts out kinda wierd but whatever lol. It seems to be getting better and better as it goes on.

I am a fan of the movie, and I still like this series so far. I watched the movie first, and then this series, its kinda fun to see the similarities, and then see what they changed or added. I think it actually makes it more interesting the way they did it, rather than just animating the movie exactly the same all over again. the movie is already a legend, theres no need to redo it again exactly the same.
I need to catch up on the other episodes that have been released now, I;ve only seen the first 2 discs, but I'm liking everything I've seen so far. aside from the odd decline in animation quality in parts of the second disc.

I bought the first disc when it came out but never actually took it out of its wrapping and sat down and watched it till two days ago. The first two episodes kind of bored me for some reason and didn't catch my attention till the third episode when things started to kick off.
Its a good series and the animation is nice and smooth. I just wish that the fight scenes were a little bit smoother... like in episode 4.

I discovered this show on IFC a few weeks ago. After watching two episodes I've greatly began to enjoy it more and more. I can definately see this becomming another favorite of mine.
Unfortunately I still don't know the character's name, but so far my favorite is that huge robot dude. >_> I sound so retarded not knowing the name.
