I liked the end a lot though. The first half of the episode made it seem like it would be predictable, but then it proved me wrong. Anyway, I thought what happened with Al made sense. I also liked that it was a little sad. If it had been completely happy it would have seemed like a cop out to me, because FMA isn't always happy and can be pretty fucked up. But even though it was sad, there was still hope. And I can't wait to find out what happens in the movie.Spoiler sort of wrote: he wasn't cut cleanly in half, so even though a lot of the left side of his body got taken away, it doesn't necessarily follow that half his organs were taken away. I think that the automail was sort of like...a casing holding everything in. What a lovely mental image. My question is how in the world is he supposed to eat with a gun coming out of his mouth?:) As for how Riza killed him, she shot him in the human side where he was more vulnerable.

Okay...its pretty obvious FMA is a very popular anime. I believe its a very well rounded anime. Great character relationships, story, dramatic events etc. Great series ending...open ended yet enough closure to keep a person satisfied.
I was just wondering...for all those who appreciate the series do you have brother and sisters. I mean the story's foundation is based on the strong relationship between Ed and Al and is what drives the story on. Having a younger brother of now 15 and being once pretty close to him i could relate with Ed and Al's bond.
I have many friends who liked FMA, however being that they didnt have any siblings didnt really like the Elric brothers. As in that they couldn't sypmathise with them or just didnt find the characters that interesting.
Do you people think one needs siblings to fully appreciate the two characters?

Well its no question that there is so much more room to have development in the characters and storyline in the manga. And the anime can seem pale in comparison, thats usually the way it is, as the anime is based on the manga.
But you cant expect the anime to be a complete retelling of the manga...there using two different mediums. You have to treat the anime as more of a spinoff containing the same characters, but still having them different in its own way.
What i like about FMA is its consistency. The feeling you get in the first few minutes can still be found through out the series and to the very end.
Id rather have a good anime with an ending (decent ending mind you, not a seemingly rushed one) leaving you wanting more...than an anime which catches your taste at the beginning....but is then packed full of low quality fillers (visually and storywise) that it leaves you with a sour taste in your mouth losing your interest loooonng before the end is insight.
There are much worst adaptions of manga into anime out there.

I actually wasn't too impressed with what I have seen of the FMA manga. The quality of the art wasn't as good as I usually expect from a manga and I thought they actually did a bit better with it in the anime. I also thought the dialouge in the anime was a bit better. I can't really say anything about the adaptation of the storyline since I haven't read past volume 1. I heard that the anime vears off from the original story in the manga about halfway through, but the person who said this also said that the anime actually told a much better story. So IMO the anime actually surpasses the manga in this case.
To answer your earlier question Trunks_Blade, I don't think that people have to have siblings to sympathize with the Elrics. I'm an only child and I really thought that the bond between them was one of the better aspects of the story and that it was very moving. It just depends on the person I'm sure.

I only have on sibling, a sister, and she's 11 months younger than me. I'm 17 and she's 16, just like Ed and Al were 16 and 15. We both can easily sympothize with the two of them more because of that, but at the same time, i also understand that it can also be just the person who sympathizes more as well. Meaning, anyone can, but it's his/her choice.
About the series to the manga, i can't pick one over the other. I LOVE Hiromu Arakawa's art. She's my fav manga artist! I've seen the entire anime, and i really liked it. I heard the ending sucked, but when i watched it myself, i thought different than my friends told me. I thought it was pretty good. I can't wait to see the rest of the movie (i've seen the first 20min of it on a site because it was a bit of a preview. it really didn't go too far from there except a small part where Ed tells our-world-Al about something that happened a while back, which still wasn't much.), and i really wanna see the OVA too!^^
About the manga, yes, it takes a complete different turn. After around the time where we are first introduced to Izumi, it starts taking a bit of a sideturn. I'm not gonna say much about where volume 12 is except that they finally introduce another country/area than the one that Ed and Al was born in. It's east of them, and everyone from there has Chinese names, lol. I've been following it for a while now, and i really like it too. I can't chose it over the anime because it's too different to compare, so i see them as equals.^^
