Well I have finished the show.
Spoilers wrote:This is not a show for the underdogs. They get no love whatsoever. Yaya officially was put in her place as a friend by giving Hikari away after tying that ribbon. She kind of had the one last embrace thing and there was no turning back.
My heart truly goes out to poor Tamao. She didn't have a chance in hell as much as I would have liked her to. I did like the part were she put Shizuma in check for a second and grabbed Nagisa's hand tighter. But that just sent Shizuma off the deep end and back to her old bold self. Poor Tamao though. She gave Nagisa away. That was totally sad. She knew it was what must happen though. She is by far a true friend. (Did you notice Chikaru looking back at Tamao right before Tamao started saying congrats. I think they had some one on one puppet time after that heartbreak. At the end where her and Nagisa where standing back to back across the door, Tamao still welcomed her back. Despite all that drama and pain she took Nagisa back. Either she's whipped, truly in love with Nagisa or both but I give her major props for taking her in.
And finally, one minor prop for Nagisa for initiating a kiss...and I guess then some.
Well the show is over. It's not like how the manga was at least from what I read but oh well. I say let Nagisa and Shizuma be happy for the 3 months they got left together. After that Shuzuma is out. Maybe then Tamao will have a chance. It looks like Tsubomi and Yaya will be getting along more. As for everyone else, who cares!

Strawberry Panic! has ended. I always feel a little sad after finishing an anime. No matter what path a series takes the thrill of anticipating it's turns, of sharing in the emotions of the characters as each event unfolds, that feeling of watching it for the first time can never come again. Though I will watch this one again and long for the day I may watch it without subtitles on a DVD that I bought, this first viewing will never be surpassed.
Now, onto my comments:
I may not see eye-to-eye with you lilgumba, but it's been fun reading your thoughts and opinions. I hope that you don't feel like you wasted your time on this series. Till next time!
Angelx03, you always bring something fun to a thread, so thanks for posting news and twisted cartoons here! See you around here and elsewhere!
Geez, I'm in an emotional and kinda sappy mood aren't I? This is what happens when you watch the last six episodes of Jigoku Shoujo's first season back to back and then top it off with Strawberry Panic!'s last episode.
Aw well, unless there's news on the licensing front or a sequel, this is probably my last time posting in this thread. Bye for now.

Well, that's my thoughts. I've enjoyed watching Strawberry Panic! and I've enjoyed talking about it on here with both lilgumba and angelx03.Spoilers wrote:As lilgumba said, this isn't a show for the underdogs. It's strange. I almost always root for the underdogs in a series. Yet, this time, I am the one most filled with happiness at the end because everyone I wanted to see together is together.
Watching Shizuma suffer through the last few episodes, trying to ignore her feelings for Nagisa because she's graduating, it made me sad. Would it have been easier for both Nagisa and Shizuma to forget their feelings for each other? Wouldn't it be better for Nagisa to just be with Tamao since Shizuma is leaving soon? Maybe.
Then again, why should knowing regret and heartache be better? Nagisa has never shown any significant interest in Tamao. Even while dancing together, it wasn't Tamao that Nagisa was dancing with, but the memory of Shizuma. Ultimately, if Tamao and Nagisa had gotten together, it would have ended badly. Nagisa would have gone to her because she was there, not out of genuine feelings.
What Tamao wanted was a friend. She became so lonely that when someone finally came who could fill that role, she became obsessed. Even though those feelings became something more, what she wanted most was a friend. I see a lot of parallels between her and Miyuki. Maybe I read too much into Miyuki, but I got the impression that she may have had feelings for Shizuma once. Ultimately, both chose to support the ones they loved by letting them find happiness with others.
Going to Hikari, Yaya, and Amane. If Hikari had turned away from Amane and chosen Yaya, I would have been happy too, but the way it worked out is how I thought it should. Yaya never had the courage to admit her feelings. Then, when Hikari tried to give her a gift, she started molesting her. Yaya. . . are you related to Chikane Himemiya by any chance?
Was it perhaps a little harsh of Hikari to ask Yaya to tie the ribbon? I took it a different way. To me, I felt like it was Hikari's way of showing that she trusted her again and also of asking for Yaya's blessing.
Amane truly loved Hikari. Becoming Etoile was important to her because it meant that she and Hikari could spend even more time together. That was what both of them wanted. It's very much like with Shizuma and Kaori, becoming Etoile meant they that were joined forever by shared memories.
Chikaru once again showed everyone just what a great person she is. Always giving and always able to see things others miss. She knew Shizuma would come back for Nagisa, she said as much when Shizuma left. Something about it wasn't time for her yet.
Miyuki was ultimately happy because her friend Shizuma was back to being who she once was. Nagisa restored Shizuma's light. I honestly think that Miyuki loved Shizuma too and seeing her happy was all she really wanted in the end. She thought it would be better for Shizuma to leave Nagisa because she'd have to anyway when she graduated, but in that moment when Shizuma took Nagisa away with her, Miyuki realized that Shizuma would only be happy with Nagisa.
Personally, I think after Miyuki and Shizuma graduate, Nagisa's going to be getting a lot of long letters. I don't see the relationship ending, just becoming long distance. Plus, Nagisa can vist Shizuma on the holidays.
Tamao will have her friend, Yaya might find love with another, and everyone else seemed okay at the end. Heck, we even got a small scene with a happy Not-So-Evil Lesbian Duo.
When two people love the same person, someone has to lose. Nagisa would never have felt as strongly for Tamao as she wanted. Hikari never had an interest in Yaya. Shizuma's smart enough to figure out how to stay in touch and close to Nagisa. Amane loves Hikari. Tamao deserves someone who can love her in return and Yaya needs the same.
I may not see eye-to-eye with you lilgumba, but it's been fun reading your thoughts and opinions. I hope that you don't feel like you wasted your time on this series. Till next time!
