There were quite a few references in the 1st third actually. I recognized Big-O, Full Metal Panic, Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, and G Gundam. I wouldn't be too surprised if there were others.

I missed a lot of those. Mind pointing out where Gurren Lagann was referenced? I saw no giant robot heads.

Well, I'm not sure but I personally thought the mask was the reference. Had a similar look to Lagann's face, plus the fact they found it while digging. <shrugs>

Hm, that didn't seem like a TTGL reference at all to me.
Shovel ≠Drill.
Mask that makes you grow big ≠robot head that you can get inside.

I was thinking maybe this:

It's head looks kinda like Lagann's, but then again it could very easily be reference to another show (I don't get the rolling on it's side part).
And I recognize the one behind it is probobly a reference to FMP.

On another note, I realized that the lesson taught in the first third of this episode is the entire basis for my English class.

Yeah I noted most of them, it was funny as hell, esp the Eva parody.

Btw, did anyone notice the sudden drop in animation quality? Seriously, at the start some of the frames just looked horrible compared to Season 1 and the first 3 episodes of season 2. Maybe a new animation team took over?

That aside, what's up with the change in the credits? Are they planning on changing a small thing every time from now on?

Can someone please explain the voice changing thing in Zoku ep 6. (directed @angel)
From what I can tell, these were cameo appearances by important people, or the voices actors got switched around.

I do believe Zoku Ep 7 was the weirdest one yet. It must have been really fucking expensive to make though, with all the different animation styles they used throughout the episode.
