Ah Dracula.... yep, I just finished reading it. I'm an extremely slow reading but over the last 1 & 1/3 days I finished the 19 chapters that I had left. I also watched he movie (the 1992 one) although that had a pretty darn different theme. And geeze, Lucy, Mina, and Dr. Van Helsing all had their characters completely changed, or atleast ruined. It was a great horror movie, but while many events where the same between the movie and the book, the themes and characters where as far as could be.
Anyway, don't most people think that Van Helsing killed Dracula? It seems that I remember whenever a "Hellsing connected to Van Helsing?" thread someone mentions that Proffessor Van Helsing killed Dracula, but unless Bram did multiple endings to Dracula, Van Helsing didn't kill Dracula, and although he was the major influence in the events that led to the killing of Dracula, had the true killers of Dracula (I beleive it was Jonathan off with the head and Seward through the heart) Van Helsing almost surely would have been killed because Dracula would have been risen by the fallen sun and all would be lost.
Anyway... I don't know what else I can say. I also recall someone saying that Dracula didn't die in the book, which definetly isn't true. Although, they didn't fill his mouth with garlic, but Van Helsing said that if they seperated the head from the body he couldn't reincarnate.
Anyway.... as for Hellsing - Alucard - Dracula, yeah I think the intent is clearly that he is Dracula. Everything points to that direction. And a lot of stuff is consistent with the book even if a lot of stuff isn't. I guess in Hellsing's universe, since Vampires are a good bit harder to kill than in Stoker's case, honorable Dr. Van Helsing captured Dracula and then following was whatever else happened after that.
Look at all my trials and tribulations
Sinking in a gentle pool of wine.
Don't disturb me now, I can see the answers
'Till this evening is this morning, life is fine.
