The missle is there to intimidate any opposition the mech encounters, as well as to penetrate enemy fortifications.

Gonzo Studio's Masterpiece Sentou Yousei Yukikaze

Not a bad series, slow, with a few fast paced aerial dogfights, shame that it hasen't been finished, been out in Japan since 2002. Bandai only released the Pilot and second episode so far. there is at least two more in Japan
