Sorry, if you look at the airplane, it's a C47 with invasion stripes used on D-day WWII, a little before your time. That's even before my time.

actually, it was the blue "Rangers Swim-Team" insignia on the sargents hat

Granted, that's gotta be one of the best anime-style pics I've seen in... well.. ever.

I'm willing to be the artist was copying an actual photograph and making adjustments to do that, but, stylistically, it came together really well.

And that's why I dig it.
