thats strange.... Huffyuv encoded files join fine in AVIsynth without any problems....
Although, I've had that weird color problem importing then in premiere if I didn;t convert it to RGB color space first, (Premeire can only handle RGB, not Yuv) and set the flag for Huffyuv to assume RGB color space... So perhaps that *Might* have something to do with the problem of joining then on linux?
Also, since you have a windows partition now, why not just use AVIsynth on the windows partition along with Virtualdub to do the join? If its getting to complicated on the linux partition...

Rose, if you want any of us to resubmit our parts in higher quality, just ask. Video quality is important. I agree with many of the editors in this thread in saying that video quality affects my enjoyment of AMVs. A lot.

It's only 15 GiB. All of those HuffYUV files just wouldn't fit.Bakadeshi [AuN Studios] wrote:Also, since you have a windows partition now, why not just use AVIsynth on the windows partition along with Virtualdub to do the join? If its getting to complicated on the linux partition...
I kinda just did. Don't go re-doing anything if you don't still have the project source all set up. I just figure anyone who does have a copy better than the ones I, in my inexperience, asked for - or an easy way to make a copy better than the ones I, in my inexperience, asked for, might want to send that copy to make their segment look better in the compilation encode.Jasper-Isis wrote:Rose, if you want any of us to resubmit our parts in higher quality, just ask. BTW - I got the DV encoding to work. That's a big step in the right direction. I have coding to do now, however, so I'm afraid I won't be any actual joining this weekend. If I get a chance, I'll do a two-segment test on Monday/Tuesday.

Okay, but you've gotta be more explicit about it. It's not hard to get lost in those giant posts of yours.rose4emily wrote: I kinda just did. Include a list of the exact settings that you want. I also recommend bolding and enlargening of font.
It may seem like overkill, but it's been a while since this thread was really active, and some of us will a big attention-grabber to notice anything.
Bakadeshi: how many people's DVD files do you have so far? Wouldn't it be easier to do as Rose suggested and send him the necessary HQ files?
One nice advantage of DVD files is that they come with the audio demuxed in a PCM wav file.

Well, there's a difference in what each of us need. Bakadeshi needs MPEG2 NTSC files that are all encoded with the same pixel aspect ratio. I'm looking for DV NTSC files with the widescreen versions encoded in an anamorphic format, rather than letterboxed. Similar, but not quite the same thing.Jasper-Isis wrote:Bakadeshi: how many people's DVD files do you have so far? Wouldn't it be easier to do as Rose suggested and send him the necessary HQ files?
Well, they can come with PCM audio, but most DVDs actually use AC3-compressed audio. Not that that's a big deal, since high-bitrate AC3 is completely indistinguishable from PCM audio (at least to a human being - computers and small animals might have differing opinions), and you can always transcode that to PCM if PCM is what you need.Jasper-Isis wrote:One nice advantage of DVD files is that they come with the audio demuxed in a PCM wav file.
NOW FOR THE LOUDLY ANNOUNCED SPECIFIC REQUEST FOR IMPROVED SOURCE FOOTAGE:
If you still have the project source and files, or at least an archive version of your video that has a bigger/better picture than the one you sent me, or is still in the original 29.97 fps framerate, please encode and send a copy that is:
Encoded in DV. Your editing app should support this, since it's the most common digital video editing standard amongst the industry professionals.
In the NTSC format. By this I mean 29.97 fps, 720x480.
If your video is fullscreen, 720x480 "flattens" your video a bit. It "stretches" widescreen video. This is okay - the aspect is corrected at the time of playback, same as it is with DVDs (which are also almost always 720x480 NTSC in America). Don't add any black bars to anything, just scale the footage if it's at some other resolution.
Video in the DV container (.dv) would be preferred, but some apps don't like to export to the DV container, so I can do a streamcopy to extract the DV from an AVI or Quicktime container if that's what your app feels like exporting to. I have done that before, so I know it works.
Don't worry about bitrate settings. DV pretty much decides that one for you. In other words, all (standard, there are some special-purpose exceptions) DV files are fixed-bitrate 25 megabits per second. This is a throwback to the invention of the format as a means for recoding digital video to digital video tape, which works best if the bitrate remains constant.
Same with any other encoding options, because they really aren't any others. It's not like MPEG4 where there's a million ways to do it, all you can do is NTSC and PAL. Since both Japan and America broadcast NTSC instead of PAL, NTSC is format of choice.

HDD FAILIURE
I am so mad I can barely see straight. I had a wonderful 10 GB uncompressed copy of Reqiem and a filter list all set up for re-submision but I got wrapped up in VCA's, a Soc project, and ProjeKct Life, and now it's gone.
I wasn't in town when it happened so I didn't get a chance to do any troubleshooting, In fact I just found out about it. At first I wasn't worried knowing I had project files of just about everything important. Then I read this thread and got a horrible sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Computer has been sent to Chicago, who knows, maybe there will be a miracle and the data will be recovered and the comp will make it back in time for a high quality submision to this project but my hopes are not high.
So close and yet so far...![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Well, at least the VOB I have of yours is definately on the hi-fi end of the submissions, and already at the desired frame rate and audio sample rate. A little crop and scale are needed, but not much, so I really wouldn't worry about it. It's the framerate conversion and heavy scaling from 512W to 720W that I'm trying to avoid.pen-pen2002 wrote:HDD FAILIURE![]()
I just hope nothing else important was on there. I think maybe all this video editing stuff is bad for hard disks, given then uncanny bad luck we've all been having with our storage media as of late.

Rose: Once we get those DV files ready, (I still have my huff I beleive...) where do we put them to get them to you?

I'm going to have to set up my FTP again. It's currently non-existant, because of having to re-image my machine, but I can re-install it next weekend.Bakadeshi [AuN Studios] wrote: Rose: Once we get those DV files ready, (I still have my huff I beleive...) where do we put them to get them to you?
I think I should also be able to get it to work faster by playing with alternative ports. I've noticed that some things, like Bittorrent (what?...I was downloading Linux ISOs) allow a much higher upload/download limit than seems to be imposed on me for ports 80, 20, and 21.

By the way, if any of you happen to run across a copy of Alice's Restaurant written entirely in 1337, I did that with "Find and Replace". I'm not crazy enough to acually write all that.
