Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I asked for the audio here a bit ago. I'm going to ATTEMPT to do a sort of scene with Mio and Ritsu using the audio from Wayne's World 2 using the leprechaun skit where Ritsu as Wayne will be trying to scare the crap out of Mio as Garth. It's another one of my "Seriously... can I honestly make this work...?" ideas. Seems like moonbunnychan has two music ones, mine are two talking ones.
Your idea I think it'd depend which lyrics you'd want to use, because you'd only get about 20-30 seconds of good humor out of the idea I think, and it depends on the footage you use as well. Same goes for me. Oh my god is mine a long shot. The biggest issue is how often they change clothes and it revolves entirely around having 40 seconds worth of footage of Ritsu taunting Mio and Mio reacting appropriately. I'll know more in a couple weeks whether I can even make it work, but both you and I seem to be losing a BUNCH of time in the near future, so it really depends how confident you are about your idea whether I'll drop mine. Too much K-on may work against us I think. Yours actually really would work very well with Beck as well. You could also use the intro to Kannagi for the last verse of the Weird Al one as well with the "Can you tell me, what I'm singin'". ...and what is it with us putting men's voices in the K-on girls...?
Next on my agenda, American Dad intro to Code Geass Emperor

Neither of my two K-On clips were things I worked particularly hard on, so if somebody else's is better I can drop one of mine as well.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Hmm... thinking through those, I don't see them being much use. The cat one may have enough narrative in the songs to make it useful, the others are just very annoying very quickly. That and what the hell are you doing suggesting banana phone ^^ That was an old AMV joke like 5 years ago ^^ None of the others really stand on their own other than the cat one, and I don't think it'd make anything that funny myself. Maybe someone else will have a better idea to use them. Quite honestly I'm avoiding any kid stuff since nothing jumps out at me. Except perhaps stuff already existing in other parodies. Though I would love to use one of the Youtube Poop edits for Dora the Explorer.
Dora: "Swiper no swipey! Swiper no swipey!"
Swiper speaking in drill seargant voice from Full Metal Jacket: "HOLY FUCK!!"
Actually I wonder if it'd be funny to take the scene from Full Metal Panic second raid in the second episode with that insane scientist where he does that really fast gun shot and have the guy he shoots singing "I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm that map..." and gets shot in the face.
Oh well... I do better with ironic humor I think

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Hmm... this may be a strange question, but do any of you have any anime you know of, or scenes you can access of characters flying into the distance. Like the screen is looking at some point far away and the characters fly into camera from 'behind' the camera's position and fly toward a far point, kinda like riding off into the sunset type deal? If any of you know of ANY of those, please PM me or just post the sources here. I have a potentially fun idea that may not be kid-based, but it may cause several 30-40-year-olds to nostalgia while also getting some younger people, as well as pumping up the audience all at once ^^ If I can find enough, this may be a better intro to AMVS5 than I had planned before, but it's determinant on if I can find a few good scenes of the sunset flying.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Is this worth editing out further?
http://sketsi.com/tmp/amvs5/troll.avi [29MB]
The editing is rough and the audio is desynced, but it should give a good idea of what I'm up to
If you guys think it works / is funny then I'll try to sync the audio better, make the face better and align the lettering. I've had some real troubles getting the audio and video to match, out of the 20 video editing/converting software tools I have the best I could do was to get them both and manually sync, still blows chunks though.
@ Gaelstrom, did you get the wayne's world 2 audio clip? I found the movie so I could get it for you, but it mightn't be very good (prolly mp3), but still better than youtube I guess.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Hahahaha, okay... this is really odd, I honestly don't know if I like that or not I laughed, but from an audience standpoint, it's a total internet inside joke ^^ Granted, many of the people in the audience will be the type to get it, so it may be worth it for a quick joke. I'd say the troll face is so out of place though that it hurts the joke right now. If you could find a way to sort of edit together the troll face onto his face in a good way that makes it recognizable, and makes it like Light is actually making that face, then it could potentially work as a quick joke. Like using liquefy in photoshop and making it a multiply layer so the white disappears and only the black lines remain, then scale it and move the lines to match his face as best as possible, while making a solid to cover his features matching his skin tone. If you take the time to do that well, you may make a pretty epic moment.
The other issue is it's just that it was a long wait for the joke. Not so much of a problem, there are clips that will need a long build-up to allow for laughter for clips before, but maybe not that much. 25 seconds of buildup is too much, but perhaps you could start it at "Ryuuzaki..." instead and shave off a good 10 seconds of superfluous information. That should make it a 25-second clip in total, so it could work to slow things down a bit.
I'm not sure if the troll face fits to that scene specifically, though. It's more just the fact that you used it than its direct connection, but in general that may be enough. But that is 90% dependent on how well you can integrate it into the scene so that it'll fit I believe.
And yes, I did get the audio earlier. Thanks for thinking of me though ^^ The clip's nearly done. Thanks to the girls changing clothing, I have to do a lot of things to make people not recognize they shift from vest to coat throughout both clips I've made, and thus far a bunch of my friends have barely noticed, if at all, so I'll err on the side of letting it be okay that they switch a bit.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Yeah the white face really stands out, I agree. I think most of the audience will get it, it's a pretty widespread meme by now, much more than the 'in the projects' video I'm still planning to do. I recently got fired (last week, still get 2 months pay), so I have enough free time now..
I'm glad you liked the idea of it (and laughed, thats the point ) so I'll try to work it out. Obviously I'm not the best editor around, but I'll see what I can do. The wait for the joke is quite long, I agree, but the wait is imho part of the joke. Shortening it is no problem (the 'ryuuzaki?' point might work just as well), but because the wait is so long you get a real feeling of 'what's going to happen? this is just death note!'. It's a bit like the Geico stuff from last years salad.
I chose the scene because of two reasons. The first is that the scene is the part where he basicly 'won the game'. He regained his powers. The other reason was that his original face in this scene really is evil and a bit trollish.
I'll see what I can do.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
That's true, I forgot that that was the scene. It's been a long time.
If you have any issues with editing it, message me, maybe I can help you with it. I'm used to working in photoshop for stuff like that. Depending what you use for editing, you could even make a mask and draw out the points with the pen tool in the editing program and use bezier curves to make it match his hair, and then you can frame-by-frame it quickly so that it matches the speed at which the face pans in. Anime goes at 2s and 3s in frame count, so what I do a lot is make sure I frame-by-frame through and key each frame for things like that, and move it only when the actual frame moves. It makes it fit FAR better, and the audience is none the wiser that you even changed anything. You can make the troll face totally look like the animators put it in there without much work actually.
One thing you could even try is to make a still-shot of Light's face in the final pan frame and actually use photoshop to liquefy it INTO the troll face like I see for a lot of characters, using the original troll face as reference. THAT would be epic ^^
Another minor thing is if you have another scene that shows more of a hand holding the book, it may be better. VERY minor, almost inconsequential, but another thought I had, since it took me a moment to recognize it was a shot of the book being held. Although granted part of it was because I was thinking "Is 'problem' the phrase attached to that face?" because I don't remember seeing it.
