Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
All right guys, I need your help to narrow down some ideas I have for the intro. Usually I'd like it to be a surprise, but I don't have as much time as I used to anymore, and I want to use it wisely, so I need to ask you all what you think of a couple ideas I have for the intro.
FIRST IDEA
First idea I have is to do something which emulates AMV Hell 3's intro. When I came up with it, I didn't remember it had an intro like this, but I wanted to do a Star Wars intro with AMV Salad 5 as the title. But then as the Star Wars style logo goes through, a space ship or gundam or something will fly through and take it out, along with the music. Then the Great Will of the Macrocosm from Excel Saga will come through and the intro will pick up at the rolling credits into the background. It'll say "Episode 5: Happy Meal" then some text will roll for a few seconds. Then I want to cut in the dialogue from Space Balls with Helmet and Sanders "That's much too early, PREPARE TO FAST FORWARD!" "Prepare to fast forward!" "FAST FORWARD!" "Fast forwarding sir!" and then do a spoof of the fast forward portion with anime characters with a bunch of ridiculous stuff happening to a certain character who says the lines. I was considering using the King from Ouron, he's just the first one to come to mind. If anyone has another series they know of that would be fun to spoof characters doing the 'fast forward' lines, please let me know. And also it'd help if they are in a Gundam anime or something. I haven't seen any Gundam after Wing, so someone else would know. One other thought is to integrate Haruhi again, with them playing the computer game, where it'd fit that Kyon would go "In fact never play this again!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdHGSXmO ... re=related
The scene begins at exactly 1 minute and goes for 30 seconds in case you haven't seen it.
SECOND IDEA
This idea is something I came up with recently. I think it's a more epic intro, I love the music which is what gave me this idea.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mxHe8T_QVA
This person combined two Dr. Who intros into a rather excellent rendition. It gets me pumped when I hear it. My intention is to take Lelouche from Code Geass, and have him do a Geass on Suzaku, and as soon as that little bird portion of the Geass comes out, start this song. Then have a bunch of wormholes happening. I wanted to see if I could edit together the portions of the wormhole from the Dr. Who intro with fades, but there's only a few seconds at best that are clear enough to do that. I can try and make it myself, but I don't think I have time. One other idea was to try and get a bunch of different wormholes together, like parodying multiple things. Like Dr. Who, then the Stargate, then a couple others, I don't know any more off the top of my head, if you know any, please tell me.
All through this, I was going to find anime characters that could go into the distance and mask them in flying through the wormhole, and adapt the 3D intro I did last year so that AMV Salad 5 could be displayed in the wormhole, either like the Dr. Who title, or just have it fly in with the percussive drum beats. I was also going to do things like have the R-wings from Starfox fly through and such. Little jokes.
THIRD IDEA
This idea was kind of where I started and the first idea kind of formed from it. I was going to start with the Geico Money with the Hypnotoad eyes, have it cut out to show Haruhi watching it on the screen, then have her shut it off and have another Harvey Birdman scene to briefly introduce AMVS5. Problem is I don't know what dialogue I can assemble that would work, but I haven't really tried. Unlike last time I don't have certain dialogue in mind that would work. This idea offers connective tissue to the end of AMVS4, which is why I like it, but I won't be able to tell if I can make it amusing until I listen to Harvey Birdman a bit more. I was then going to have Haruhi introduce the movie and then cut to the Star Wars style intro. So this is kind of a third idea, but kind of just another adaptation of it. If I could get Phil Ken Sebben's dialogue to work again, I'd like to try this one, but I wanted everyone's impressions.
FOURTH IDEA
The emperor from Code Geass singing "Good Morning USA" from American Dad. Basically just Code Geass footage used ironically with him bellowing happily and finishing with 'AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal' at the end of it. Much faster as an intro. I was going to use this as a clip either way, but it also works to a degree for a fast intro with the trumpets to draw attention. Not quite as creative as the previous ones in my opinion, but a lot less work.
Those are the ideas I have.
I would like some input and if ANYONE has any additions or adjustments or whatever they can see with these ideas, plus I could use some help if possible, especially footage that fits the ideas, such as characters going into the distrance for idea 2, or wormholes for that matter.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I apologize for my lack of activity on this thread lately.
Gael, I like all of these ideas and am very anxious to see your visions come to life. I have no doubt we could do with all of them. Especially the Spaceballs idea.
As for everyone else, expect a "100x hit-combo"-type poke from me via mass PM and / or email to get off your collective keysters and submit some material to this year's Salad. As much as I'm not into the idea, we may have to forgo the theme as I have received less material for it than general. If I can't come up with enough theme-based clips to cover at least half of the time line we may have to stick to a more generalized Salad. Shit happens. We shall see.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I wasn't posting those just to see what you thought, I need to know if you can think of anything that I can do for those. Such as anime characters going into the distance for the wormholes, characters that would work with the space balls scenario, etc. I need ideas that jump out when you see those. I'm finishing up my first two now, but I don't know how many more I can do. I know May is our initial deadline, but I can honestly say I'll need until the second deadline to truly get stuff done this year if I'll get as much as I'd like done. I'm ripping the footage for the next two now, and I'm seeing what I can do about the intro for the time being.
Plus, we need to figure out if the Energizer Bunny works as a running gag, and isn't too forced. If you push it too hard like an intentional running gag, then if just comes off that way. It has to have the room to breathe and be something other than the geico money.
Send out the e-mail now, get everyone back on the boards so we can use each other to go forward if necessary.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
... Of the ideas for the intro I like Idea 1 and Idea 2. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time has the behind the camera to central vanishing point type of shot you want for Idea 2 (when she time trips). I'll keep an eye out for other such clips.
I have one more idea for a running gag: Badass characters who, after an establishing shot (possibly with original audio), sing the Jigglypuff song. I'm not sure if this would get predictable fast, but it is easy to execute. The last video in the group could be Jigglypuff singing something entirely different. I don't have a strong idea for that, some thoughts: using an iconic song from another anime (eg Rock the Dragon or Dance of Curse [the Escaflowne song]), something that relates to Happy Meals or Salads, or just something way over the top.
I already sent in a Jigglypuff video, I'm sure it wouldn't mind friends.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I can see it now.
Goku goes Super Saian and, just as he's about to kick ass,...
or Beck MCS about to rock out to all their fans, but instead...
But Chiyo's cooking song works for this gag as well.
Maybe the running gag would be lost if different songs were used?
Anyway, maybe Jigglypuff could join his comrades in a Dethklok song or something?
Just a thought...

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Thanks for the thoughts on the going into the distance. I forgot about Girl Who Leapt, I'll check it out for a scene. Maybe other gaming references would work as well besides Star Fox. Anything will help, doesn't matter if you don't like the idea, any of you, just feel free to share. Even 'bad' ideas can generate good ones.
The best thing I'd like to know is which characters would work for the 'PREPARE TO FAST FORWARD!' clip. Ideally, as I said, it'd be able to use well with the fast-forward part as well. What I'm looking for is a character who would work best in the "No no, go past this... past this part.... in fact never play this again!" That one would work best for the punchline.
As for Jigglypuff running gag, I recognized something. The running gag MUST build on itself. It can't be the same thing over and over again, otherwise it has the opposite effect. I don't quite see how that one could build on itself. Perhaps if it were kind of shifted. Have Jigglypuff coming in and trying to sing and various characters reacting differently to it. Such as in the initial one it's just out of place. But as it goes on to more characters, eventually Jigglypuff tries to put Vegeta to sleep. And that one would be kind of like the Pokemon/Geico money one.
Jigglypuff: "Jiiiiiiigoliiiipuuuuufff jigoooliiiiii..."
Vegeta: *Just staring...*
Jigglypuff: "...iiiiiipuuuuuuufff! Jiiiiiigolii-"
*MASSIVE SUPER SAIYAN EXPLOSION*
Again, it's similar to geico money, but different enough to work. Personally, I believe the Energizer Bunny is a bit better though for running gag. Because Jigglypuff has a joke already attached to it that is very specific, meanwhile Energizer Bunny has irony in its favor. It could be related to mechanical things being powered, or for something going on endlessly, like Gundams having infinite ammo (Oh god... making note of that right now, energizer bunny for Gundam Wing because they NEVER run out of ammo, so just 15 seconds of Trowa's gundam firing endless bullets on a repeat with the bunny going through would work well I think!).
Anyway, nice idea, but I think it'll work best as a one-shot, or perhaps a two-shot, like its own minor story arc. Kind of like what I tried to do with Haruhi and the birdman clip in the credits.
Actually, I think that would be worth exploring. Perhaps we could make some of the credit clips almost extra clips from previous ideas, where applicable. Such as a jigglypuff clip in the main, followed by its return in the credits briefly to 'conclude' a story of sorts?

The episode where he does a dance number on stage.
I'm sure there are other characters we can agree are quite annoying...

Could work, but there's not enough footage that would make sense for him being in the previous scenes. I'm not trying to find a character who would be annoying, in fact I think it'd make more sense to have a cool character who's usually calm and collected say it so that they're just a tad off character when they say it. It's why I was thinking Ouron initially, but then I think that for many things. I'm already doing an Ouron clip, but I could use it again. I just think something better exists but I can't think of it off hand. The next best one is Haruhi (again) with them playing the videogame.Deuce Loosely wrote:Ahhh...EXCALIBUR (Soul Eater)!Gaelstrom wrote:What I'm looking for is a character who would work best in the "No no, go past this... past this part.... in fact never play this again!" How about this?
I'll need to see if I need to create my own panning or if I can use the pan in the scene and use the face. It might be easier to create my own panning shot, but the subtitles would be harder to match. (Yes, I've left them in intentionally!)

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Oh dear sweet christ in a T-shaped canoe! My nightmares will last for months!!
Well it works in general, the huge, thick lines are a little strange though, if you can find a way to thin those out just a tad it'd look better, but in general it's positively terrifying ^^ Even better will be if you can mask the face underneath the boom mic in front of it so it integrates better.
And no, don't try to move subs. Just cut out the face section and have it move with the frame, you'll save yourself a lot of headaches. Just have it start off-screen matching the location of the first frame of the pan and slide down and just frame-by-frame it and move it only when it actually moves in the frame and you'll have a near seamless integration. It's only a second or two, so it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to do.
You may also want to gray the lines a little so it blends into the rest of the frame a bit more on the left side. Not matching it entirely, since you want it to stick out a bit, but right now it still feels like it's pasted on top. This may be a bit of work for a minor detail, but since the frame seems to have that small flare of light on the left side, what you could do is in photoshop, on a layer that only affects the troll face, take a soft-edged brush at a very low opacity, then color-select the lightest portion over his shoulder, and then with a very big brush, just click a few times to soften that side of his face and eyeball it a bit.
Heh, I honestly have no idea still how I feel about this clip ^^ All I know is I really look forward to seeing its reaction in an audience.
