Wow...I thought you all read about this.

For the beta screening at AMA (not the premiere for Otakon), there will be a patio outside the hotel lounge area where a large tent will be set up to house outdoor events (weather permitting). One of these events I am hoping to be this one.

The area kinda looks like a very small amphitheater without the canopy...semi-circular for stadium-style seating. Imagine being outdoors under the stars watching AMV Salad like you were at a drive-in or something.

That's what the deal is. I'm still talking to the con chairs about it. Even if weather dictates an indoor event, this project is gonna be epic. I just think this is a unique opportunity...

Ooooh... phew. No, I know nothing about AMA honestly, Otakon's the only con I really attend (even though I'm in Phoenix, it's from when I lived in Connecticut... plus AX has no parodies, and thus sucks! ^^)

So when is the AMA deadline for this? I'd imagine we'd like to get this as close to done, if not done by then so that it's as strong as possible. I want to take another stab at the Lucky Channel opening, and also, if you agree to the AMVS4 logo idea I mentioned earlier, get to that as well.

As a comparison to some of the longer ones, maybe, but objectively I'd say it does run past its joke. It's Gurren Lagann's animation which really helps maintain interest after that. One issue is I found it hard to hear them actually saying Fraggle Rock initially. That may be a concern, is that the highest quality audio you could get of the opening? Another thing is Soundforge may help it out a bit in cutting out a verse of the song so you can get the strong start and the strong ending.

I did a very quick edit in soundforge, cutting out a good 20-30 seconds of it in the center. Basically linking the first verse with the last. I think it sounds pretty seamless, lemme know what you think:

Go ahead and grab it and see if you think it'll maintain your joke and is a reasonable length. I can do a longer/shorter edit potentially. It can only be downloaded 10 times, but others feel free to check it out and give your thoughts too. I normalized the volume so it's louder by default as well.

AMA happens June 11-13 but we don't need a "Final" since I use that audience as a beta test. This is one of the cons where I have an hour-long panel to screen the previous and new AMVS so it's up to me what is shown. If we have nothing more than a good beta by that weekend, we can run with it since I'm mainly gauging reaction to the material. We can continue work on the "Final" for another week or two after that.

And the opening: go get it.

I'd really like to keep the Gurren Rock video as it is, I'm really happy with it and I've been finished with it for months - I don't really want to change it at this point (nor have it changed).

Allow me to step in and second the motion. I really don't see anything that should or could be taken out. The joke is only half of the equation. As long as it's also entertaining I see no problem with it. ;)

Was just exploring potentials. I try never to be locked into something, so I just approach everything like that with exploring potentials.

The Gurren Rock clip luckily is one of the longer ones that doesn't harm its joke or the videos after it by giving the impression of 'sitting through it.' You did good cuts and video choices for it, and its length is a minute, so it won't be a major issue. I still stand by the belief that it could be cut down and maintain its strength and full interest, though. But all that is moot really, we just better hope for several of our clips' sakes that our audience's average age is over 20 ^^

I dunno...it kinda looses it for me after the part where they name off their names. It's still funny but kinda just...continuing...at that point.

I... didn't even know names were being mentioned... you know what it might be? The music actually feels a bit slurred starting at the scene where the boars burst through, so the unconscious effect may be that the mind kind of disengages because it takes a lot of concentration to listen. If I had to choose the weakest scene, it would be where Kamina and Viral are fighting to the conversation behind it. I hear 'look it's a fraggle!' and know exactly what you were going for there, it just took me two or three times to hear it.
