Alright, I suppose that "obscure" has a pretty broad definition, but couldn't the "standard audio" also get you to edit to something you hadn't before? I mean, if this project really is all about editing something new, and you're being that elitist about your music tastes, then it probably would help if you're forced into editing something you could find in recent new vids on the block.

Yes but you don't know who is next, and if you DID know who is next, giving someone who didn't want to edit to linkin park just because you can is no different than "Screwing someone over with horribly obscure music sources".meleechampion wrote:Alright, I suppose that "obscure" has a pretty broad definition, but couldn't the "standard audio" also get you to edit to something you hadn't before? Because you DON'T know who is coming up next, you would have to take things on probability.
Chances are if generic rock-pop are standard, and thus used by many many people, the next editor would already have edited to it.
If you choose something you like but have never seen a video to on the org, a song from perhaps, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/officialjakeshimabukuro">Jake Shimabukuro</a> A ukulele player from Hawaii, they are likely not going to have edited to that before.
It's all about probability, a standard song is going to have a lower probability of being something unique to that editor than a non-standard song.

Okay, so as the project renders from Vegas, let me go through and say some things.

As for the whole "different audio" argument...I have to say, I agree more or less with FC. I'd have really liked to see more atypical audio, especially because this was just a REALLY GREAT opportunity to throw some out there. I can understand the "I wanted to see this song edited" sentiment, but honestly, I don't really think that this was a good place to throw that out there. For one, you're not seeing the entire song being edited (in most cases), and, as FC and godix already pointed out, you could find an AMV similar enough somewhere else on the .org.
That's not to say that the more "typical" music tracks in the MEP are bad - many of them I like a lot. But I wish people would have taken the chance to throw something really different out there, something that's not on the .org already. I mean, come on, you've got nothing to lose.
That said, I personally feel the MEP turned out pretty well - I ended up liking a lot of the tracks, and there were two or three that were handled REALLY well, considering the audio source.
I will post in this thread and in my journal when it's uploaded. Unfortunately, that probably won't be until sometime tomorrow, at the rate this is exporting (and compression is going to be slower).
I could probably do this, yes, but it'd be a bit more work on my part and I personally didn't mind the slow pace of the project (but then again, I got to see what everyone was doing, so it was more interesting for me). I'll consider this.meleechampion wrote: As for improv-ements I still think you can do a two people editing at once scheme to get this done in half the time. Just find someone else who you can trust not to drop out and *ka-chink* link the two ladders together at the end.
Nah, I'm not going to kick someone out just because they're not entirely prepared to edit when they had no idea beforehand when they'd be editing. I was lenient with the time limits, but that's just my nature - look at Project GatewayIngow wrote:I did enjoy the whole concept, it was kinda boring though since it takes forever and the rules shouldn't have been bent I am pretty sure you gave random noobs one extra week because they always had some random excuse ;p

Yes, this is a good suggestion. I don't know that it would make a whole lot of difference, but an advance warning like that would probably be nice.Hagaren Viper wrote:Just a simple PM saying "you will be the next to edit next week, be ready" or something. Might be helpfull to some people so they know to expect their song sometime within a week or two. But I don't know if it really matters.
I kind of agree. If I ever did it again, I would only do it once more and then call it quits. It was just really fun to coordinate, and I think a lot of cool tracks came out of it, so I'd definitely be willing to try once more.godix wrote:This is one of those 'once was enough' ideas.
I just wouldn't have backup editors next time.omegaevolution wrote:Use your Back Up Editors
There wasn't really much to report on over the course of the project. The only updates I ever had were those with regard to the list of anime used, and there was no reason to bump the thread whenever I updated that.omegaevolution wrote:Updates were slow and generally we noticed them when SOMEONE else bumped the topic.

well thats why I pointed that out. Maybe some people (I'm just guessing) would have liked to see if all their anime collection was already used by other editors. I know this case can be really rare, but hey, you wanted suggestions, right?CrackTheSky wrote:There wasn't really much to report on over the course of the project. Also, since you are rendering it, can you tell us how long it is? I'm curious

I forgot to mention, if I do decide to coordinate Improv 2, I probably will not actually edit or hand off audio. That way I keep it completely fair for everyone.

I definitely agree. I think that was probably one of the most unique aspects of this project that got shuffled out of the way. I myself had to edit to a song by a well-known band >.>To me this project was about getting people to edit to stuff they wouldn't normally edit to, and that means types of music that are distinctly NOT standard but that you would still like to see edited. Do you like opera? Do you like Country? Jazz? 20s Swing? Minstrel music of the 12th and 13th centuries? there is plenty of music not standard but far from "IM GONNA FUCK THE NEXT GUY OVER" and this is something I would have liked to have seen.
Not the fact that it was 'known' but the fact that it was something close to what I usually edit bothered me a lot.
I liked the project. I would love to have this happen again.

<Stirspeare> Otohiko: You guys sure love dongs.
