I'd also really like to try and meet up post Salad on Friday.

I don't think we'll be in Baltimore til early am fri, so I'd be happy to meet up post salad.

Is everyone over 21? Last year the Hilton's lounge was pretty clear...

There's always Hooters!
Erm...anyway.

I'm over 21 (28 actually) and wouldn't mind a celebratory adult beverage. I can try and shoot for 7pm Thursday but it's hard to plan exactly, aside from the two people I'm riding with I'm not sure when the other people in my room are getting there. Since the room's in my name I'm typically the one that people will call first to get let in. We all usually tend to wait later to go get our badges so that it has time to clear out. My group has a tradition of eating Thursday at the Hard Rock so I'll have to try and plan around that as well. I'm typically not doing much at all later in the evening though.
Or once the schedule comes out and we can figure out what is when I wouldn't mind doing like Friday lunch or something either if Thursday ends up not panning out for whatever reason. I'd say it'd probably be better to meet somewhere a little less crowded and hectic first and walking over. I doubt we could find each other in the chaos otherwise. Like maybe over by those big outdoor fountains by the harbor or something.

Good call on all counts (especially Hooters :awesome: )

Actually I wasn't aware there was a Hard Rock in the area. Is it within walking distance of the con? Like close to that bay area strip mall where 5 Guys is? I agree wholeheartedly about meeting somewhere less busy and perhaps walking together. Not only will it be safer later at night (even though that won't be much of an issue then anyway) but it also saves quite a bit of trouble in finding one another. Plus, again, we'll probably have to post our pictures or a link to them so we can identify one another.

Friday lunch sounds good too, or like at 10 or 11 when nothing is really happening just yet. Actually, if you want an amazing little place that is only open on Friday, there's a sort of 'secret' little corporate Deli literally right across from the entrance to the con. It's funny because it's on the map I think as the Nations Bank Building, and still nobody seems to go there. The place is always empty, has breakfast foods, sandwiches, bottled drinks, etc. It's actually another of our rituals to stop there and get a nice meal on Friday morning ^^ We discovered it like 6 years ago and it's still not well-known at all. It's facing out toward the convention center, so you can see the line.

We could meet in the Hilton at a certain time to make sure we get together (I forget which one the Hilton is... is that the brand new one that is just west of the convention center? The one where AMVS4 played last year?).

The Hilton is where fan-parodies ran last year, and like i said it was pretty quiet at the lounge last year.

Ummm... 10am is way too ambitious for me, I think it was closing in on 4am fri when I got to Baltimore last year, and it will probably be about the same this year... Also I'm more-or-less vegetarian, so I may just be too much of a pain in the ass to catch a meal with people.

I'd LOVE to go to Otakon. Unfortunately I have a two week trip planned (pretty much an annual thing). I'm part of a medieval recreation group (the society for creative anachronism) and we do this HUGE event the first two weeks of August every year in PA. Since it's an anniversary year (40) there will be loads of people there. it's kind of like a historical convention for the medieval times...except we get up to 15K people ... we are the WORLD'S LARGEST private army for two weeks and the military flies over the camp ground doing drills while we're there. It's LOADS of fun!! Maybe next year I can go as it's going to be a week off. If so I'll totally hang with you guys ^_^

Edit: To give you an idea of how big this is...here's an aerial pic of last years (10K attendance). All those white dots are tents (period canvas styled) and the camp ground is about 1-2 miles radius I think... Where the water is and surrounded by trees there are even MORE tents in there too....

I'm a vegetarian too. |:>

And I'm not sure how you could have missed the Hard Rock....it only has a giant light up guitar above it. lol. It's a bit farther down from that food court place down by the water, next to the Barnes and Noble. There used to be an ESPN Zone there too but it closed.

Also...holy crap SammySamma, the thing you're going to looks completely awesome. And here I thought the Maryland Renaissance Fair was big.

it's loads of fun ^_^ and if Baltimore wasn't 2 hours out of my way I'd totally hit you guys up on friday...but alas I have a 8+ hour drive and leave at about 5 pm that friday so I can get there before the site opens...(waiting in that line makes non-prereg look awesome lol)

Yeah that event is called Pennsic and it's a recreation of the Crusades. People come from ALL OVER the world for that one and it's easily the LARGEST SCA event held every year ^_^

I was spoiled on the Arizona Ren faire when I was younger. A complete medieval village built in the middle of the desert was just too much for me. I went to a couple others but somehow, it just wasn't the same. I heard there's one in Texas, and what you mention in PA is supposedly the other one I've heard mentioned. I would like to go to a ren faire that defeats the one here in AZ though. It wouldn't be too hard, I don't think. I haven't gone for a while because unfortunately they haven't updated many shows recently. Although the hypnotist was a great addition :D

Anyway, I think I may remember the Hard Rock now... if I'm not mistaken it's the dark brick building a bit further down, about 4 or 5 stories high? I guess it got lost in all the other stuff for me, I only ever saw it as brick. To me the Hard Rock is the one in Disney World :D Course that's just my memories overshadowing reality.

Anyway, at the very least whomever is going to be there Thursday can meet. Hell I can even meet after the fanparodies at 1, but of course everyone wants to sleep, as do I. It may be best to meet thursday and go over the schedule for a time for those arriving later to meet up and just post here potentially?

Also, I wonder if there's another creator thread like last year. There was talk of AMV creators going to dinner Saturday night. I couldn't go because AMVS4 was playing of course. And thank god. I wouldn't trade that reaction vid for anything.

I've never been happy with Ren Faires which is why I went once and never again. The SCA is something completely different ^_^ we do it for our enjoyment not for others lol the SCA might be something to look into. If you're interested you should check out what your local group is, I've had years of fun learning new stuff and doing competitions.
