Well I finally have a few ideas, now it's a matter of throwing them together.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I'm remixing the "Backin' Up" song and video for the lulz.
Not sure which anime to use with the original video.
This won't be for the Salad since krvabo already claimed it.
Just something to keep me in practice and further my WTF repertoire...

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I really want to start working on some of the things I have planned, but some of them I lack to footage, but most of all I'm torn between searching for a job, expanding my demo to make that easier, learning new software and technique to be more appealing to said jobs, and doing more parody stuff for AMVS5. I already have well over a dozen viable ideas and a couple more show up each month, it's just... darnit.
Also, it turns out I'd seen the idea I had for the intro before in another fanparody. I can still make it work if I lampoon that fanparody as well, but I'll have to see how I feel down the line. I may have to spoil the surprise and discuss the idea with you Deuce to see what can be made of it.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Here's what I propose.
No good idea should go unexplored. If you have one and don't think you can finish or follow up on it yourself, post it here. Give the concept, anime, audio source, etc and leave it there for someone to pick up and make a reality.
Don't worry about spoiling any surprises or humor. The magic is in the final product. You can talk all day about how funny something could be but you can't get the full impact of the idea until you see it. Like the Geico ads in AMVS4. They sounded like a good idea and we all saw the potential but didn't get the laughs until we saw them.
So put your ideas out there, whether by word or finished video. Let's get moving.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Oh god dammit, Miko ^^ I saw the episode of Family Guy tonight and I remembered what you said ^^ The ENTIRE episode went through my head as I sketched with Light and L and Misa ^^ Oh my god I've seen these episodes over and over, but damn I haven't laughed that hard in a long time ^^
L: "Oh, but I have to stick around and have more of Gillian's lemonade!"
Misa: "I know, right? It's so good! I just wish they didn't have to kill so many lemons to make it..."
L: "....Is she retarded?"
Oh god, the images of them in that scene... my night was made.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I was just thinking of the possibilities of doing a full episode of Family Guy with Death Note.
Side project, of course.
Split the episode into scenes and leave them up for grabs.
Something like that.
Anyway...I hope people are having fun thinking about what to do with this year's AMVS concept.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
What may be even better, and less predictable for the audience, is to do sort of an abridged style thing with it. Take scenes from Family Guy and assemble a sort of redux of Death Note utilizing Family Guy audio, and completely change the dynamic between L and Light I'm not sure how much of it would actually work, but I'm sure Family Guy has enough plots to draw several things from. Make Ryuk voiced by Peter or something. The only issue is of course there's not enough Gillian to really make her into Misa. And Lois as Misa just hurts my soul to think about Oh god... Rem as Lois... hurts so good...
But I did have a thought today, Deuce. We've GOT to do better music for the credits. Let's face it, the Law and Order theme is barely tolerable for even 30 seconds, and while TV Dinner was a step up, it was just not very upbeat or entertaining really. Granted that's not taking into account the idea that it's too painful to interject random production tags into good music, and it'll just annoy people if the song's a favorite, but you could hear the people in the audience "aww"ing when Angelyco's and MaggIvy's and such production tags went through with more upbeat and fun music and then just stop.
One proposition is for AMVS5, we actually make the credits as something more than an afterthought, something we all agree on, even if it means giving up production tags. Thus far the most successful and ironically epic credits have been 'Song that gets on everybody's nerves' but even that was too long really. I'm glad I finally convinced you to put the Haruhi reading e-mails clip in the way I'd originally suggested ^^ That one I was certain it needed a certain type of presentation to be effective. The pedobear one was definitely an interesting surprise I wonder to this day if it would have gotten that reaction elsewhere in the production. The idea is that having clips to look for should now be our baseline, obviously, because it's the best way to split up the boredom. But AMVHell of course has the best idea with making an AMV out of clips from its submissions, yet we don't have as much to work with, and usually trip over the deadline each year anyway.
Basically I think we should consider using much more upbeat music, and perhaps making a more unified production tag. For example, (and chances are this won't happen in time ) I had an idea of actually taking a song called Siamsa from Celtic Tiger I think it's called and actually doing a Riverdance version of Hare Hare Yukai in 3D. I was considering it for fun and practice, and then as I was listening I started imagining an edited down version of it where all the tags are revealed by the characters dancing through the black background and interacting with one another. This would of course require the tags to be unified and the music to not stop, but of course each person's tag is part of who they are, so it was a bit of a tradeoff.
Anyway, yeah, you get my point. I don't have a great idea myself, but I think it's something to consider. The credits are perpetually the biggest complaint I think, so they seem to require the greatest consideration. AMVS4 though deeeeefinitely was a step up in preventing boredom though I think.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Hey, Deuce. Is it next week that AMVS3 and 4 will be playing at the con? Was it Nekocon? Either way, can you please get another reaction vid somehow? I'm honestly still very curious how much the audio issues at Otakon affected the audience. That and I'd just love to see more reactions ^^ I'd be lying if I said that watching that reaction vid wasn't a rather common thing in my week

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
AMV Salad 2010 Tour!
Next two stops:
November 6 (Saturday 9pm) - Nekocon
* showing AMVS 3 & 4
November 13 (Saturday 11:30pm) - Anime USA
* showing all four AMV Salads
You can be sure there will be showings at Katsucon in February (as I'm AMV asst. DH) and Tekkoshocon in April. And AMV Salad 5 will, of course, be beta screened at Anime Mid Atlantic in June.
Speaking of the latter, we seem to be getting a slow start after such a massive brainstorm in the beginning. Hopefully things pick up soon. Remember that we also accept "non-theme" clips even though I'd like us to concentrate on the concept set forth. If any of you find that you don't like this idea enough we can figure something else out. Otherwise I hope to see clips coming in sometime before too long.
Everyone have a safe and epic Halloween!

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I thought you all might wanna know.
AMV Salad 4 STATS:
[hits: 1194]
[ops: 0]
[stars: 130]
[star avg: 3.95]
* The lowest "star average" comes from AMV Salad 1 (listed as AMV Hell 3.14) at 3.6 so I think the "franchise" is doing pretty well.
