Blümchen - Nur Geträumt MEP

The idea:
This contains only one song, and every editor edit just a short part of the song (about 20 secs). The main thing behind this is that making a 20 sec video doesn't take away a lot of time from the editors, on the other hand, everyone can take his/her time with that short part and produce the best video he/she can. As for the song, it is a german song, very intens and, although i can't really understand the lyrics, a happy, nice song.

Main things about the project:
I want this to be very intens, fast, well-edited and short. Every editor should edit their own parts at their best, giving everything they've got. Please, SYNC TO EVERY BEAT, or, where it is not possible, try to follow as much beats as you can to make a really fast paced segment.


No hentai
No interlacing
No WMM
No watermarks, logos, subs etc.
No Naruto, EVA, DBZ, Final Fantasy, game footage
DVD or very similar video quality


Technical stuff:

Frame Size = 720x480 (don't use any other)
Frame Rate = 29:97 fps
Betas = in anything you want
Finals = in Lagarith (as clean video quality as you can)


Deadlines:
Beta deadline: when you have something, send it in (PM the link to me)
Final deadline: when everyone is finished, likely in 2007, maybe in March.

Note, that you will have to make extra 3-3 secs of video footage at the beginning and at the end of your segment, to make the transitions between the different segments easier.

If the open spaces don't fill up, we will do this with multiple entries.

All right, some questions and thoughts :

-Do you have any genre for the segments you'd rather we not direct ourselves towards?

-Do you have more of a dark or light theme in mind?

-Kaxi, is your concept a video with rapidly changing styles every 25 seconds, or would you like to see us take a more general approach to the editing?

-With such short segments, the editors are really going to have to work on the transitions from segment to segment, so the whole thing flows smoothly. I know Kaxi's gonna mix it, but Cardcaptor Sakura transforming blending into an Elfen Lied gore scene won't look good, and with a transition every 25 seconds, it's gotta look good. So back-to-back editors should work together, by sharing their concept. Hope people won't care too much about being secretive, cause now's not the time.

-People might want ot check out Reflections of Style 3 if they're lacking inspiration, as it's got some very similar music parts.

If the video is about showing our styles (which sounds best), then I expect some mesmerizing masks and lipsync from viper, emotion from Sky, some all-around technical prowess from Bauzi, depth of thought through awesome scene selection from aerialesque, high energy from Niwa, and perfect sync from Kaxi.

God thank you! I know the song very good and I would say, that these animes would screw a part up. That´s nothing personal against the animes, but I think, that they wouldn´t be in the right place with this song.

My concept is not fix yet, but it will be into this direction:
Anime to manga
That will be a lot of effort and I think it will end up in a "every frame" editing in Photoshop for my "line-layer-technique". Uhm... Sky already saw it in a beta for my newest proejct with static images. With movement in it, it will be much more fun. So such a short MEP part is perfect for that.

I will take Elfen Lied and more stuff. I just want cute Nyu in my oart

Yes and no. I have "Win morph" at home for morphig effects and it´s not that hard as you think to handle. It is just a matter of effort you put into the morph, in specially when you are talking about movement and not morphing static images.

I want that we can use as many as we want or need. That would be so cute and cool I always wanted to use my Excel Saga, Get Backers, Cowboy Bebop DVDs and other stuff

Yes, i want this to be filled with happy scenes, romantic scenes and everything what you think is funny, happy or just nice to watch. So, definately on the light theme!
Please don't use scenes full of blood, depression, devils and anything that greats a depressed theme.

Yeah, i agree with this statement. Neighbour editors should work together, but if everybody does same light theme segments, i don't think it will be a great problem.

It is not about individuality, of course, use effects as you please, we will beta it anyway, so if anything stands out very much, we just have to change it.

To DivineQueenYeiweh: don't use Yu-Gi-Oh , (too much) - only if you have good video quality of it and mix it with similar anime we will use (i cant give you a list of that now sorry )

lol ... ok I got a "bit" more after 1 hour serious planing and I guess I will need up to 3 more for planning. I got scences (that I won´t to use) out of:
Black Lagoon, Elfen Lied, Cowboy Bebop the Movie + Series, Gungrave (canceled... you said happy; well it was not happy but also not depressing),
GetBackers, Excel Saga, He is my master, hack/sign, Spriggan, Ergo Proxy, Rahxephon, Chrono Crusade...

Well they are not happy enought for this MEP so I will have to change a few of them

If I were you Kaxi, I'd have everyone download the .wav version. Although I've never had any problems editing with MP3 sources, I know people do have problems, and an uncompressed .wav is the safest way to go.

I think Greg was referring more to the actual content of the footage...going from a bloody, stylized Elfen Lied scene to something more cartoony like YGO would just look weird, no matter how you actually merge the two together.

My one question is whether or not we should try to have any tangible concept for our segments; I know they should have a happy theme, but are you looking for anything specific? Or is this a purely effect/sync project?

No, there is no real limit, but you have to take that in mind that if you use like 20, and others use 1 or 2, your segment will turn out to be very unbalanced compaired to others'.
But do as you like

Goddamn, I'm no aspect ratio genius, but I think this rules out all my movies. Which is probably what I was going to edit with.

You can edit movies and wide screen stuff too, you just have to zoom in till the black bars dissapeare - i do this loads of time, when creating an amv with various anime. (this causes footage loss on the sides of course, but this is the best we can do)
Or just use footage with exactly 640x480 frame rate.
(Or we could switch to 720x480, but i prefer 640x480)

Everyone edits with the audio source of their choice, i'll have to place whole song under the segments at the end i think, so don't worry about what to use. Use what you think is the best with your editing software.
