Hey everyone! I'm starting a new AMV project, AMV Explosion! All general information, rules for clip submissions, and the deadline (which needs to be updated ;)) can be found on http://amv-explosion.darkbb.com/. Looking forward to seeing some submissions! :)

looked through your forums and have a few questions/suggestions...

what is the purpose of this mep?
is it even an mep or just a random collection of amvs?

what are the submission guidelines?
(ie. how should they be encoded, what is the project resolution, framerate)

if you're just looking for people to submit separate amvs you probably won't get too far (there doesn't seem to be any benefit to submitting a video to this project vs just releasing it under the editor's own name)

It is an MEP. It actually started out as something for just me and my friends, but we decided to publicize it. The purpose? Well, it's mostly just for entertainment. Kind of like AMV Hell.

I'm trying to be loose with the rules for this project, so format can be any high-quality format that can be read by Sony Vegas (.avi, .mp4, .wmv, etc.). I'm not setting any guidelines for the framerate or resolution, as long as it looks smooth. ;)

Yes, there isn't much personal gain for submitting a clip, but as I said above, this project is for entertainment purposes. Anyone who submits a clip will get full credit, and the project will be released worldwide. If I remember correctly, there wasn't any benefit for submitting a clip to AMV Hell either.

You are planning on combining all the submissions into one big video, right? If so, it's much better to have a uniform frame rate and resolution or the result could be messy.

Yes, I thought about that, and at first it didn't seem like a big deal, but now I may want to set a framerate. I still don't want to be too strict with the rules, so I'll accept either 25.000 (PAL) or 29.970 (NTSC) for the clips.

if you don't set guidelines, you're just setting yourself up for problems (when you combine all the video/audio.)
I'd advise setting a project framerate if nothing else. 29.970 is a good choice (people using PAL or progressive footage can easily change the framerate using avisynth)

resolution differences shouldn't destroy a project...but having a standard makes the end product look cleaner imo.

submission format is definitely something that can kill a project. If you try to edit with divx, xvid, x.264 (really anything that uses p or b frames) you run the risk of losing all your work.
Then afterwards, you have to compress the footage again. The more times you compress, the worse the video looks (and if you don't have a standard, the video quality will vary between segments)

I heard you mention amv hell in there...so are you aiming for parody/comedy then?

If I remember correctly, there wasn't any benefit for submitting a clip to AMV Hell either.
except perhaps having your video in the amv hell series (a very well known amv series), or perhaps having your name next to Zarxrax...

Alright, I'll set the framerate standard to 29.970, format can be uncompressed .avi, .mp4, or .wmv. I'm not gonna worry about resolution for the first project (this will be a series), but later on I may add guidelines for resolution. As long as it's high-quality.

Yes, that's the main objective of this project.

That's probably gonna be the main benefit to people who submit AMVs (the part about it being in the series)
