Anyone besides me notice that there's tons of videos in the list for "Best No-Effects Video" that have effects. Delerium comes to mind, as well as Dive, Whisper of the Beast, Why...? Can't...? I...?, Everyone is Different, etc...

The list goes on and on.

Is the category even READY for the flood of votes that it will recieve from the uninformed or idiotic site-goer (Not naming any names, just making a broad generalization.) who would just vote for all the vids they like, regardless of category, even if it's listed in a wrong category?

Seems like tyhis is a very iffy category to have...

I don't know, it's not much different from Most Original or Most Artistic. They don't have strict categories for those either.

Most original and most artistic are matters of opinion, and thus can be judged easily from person to person.

Best no-effects... to quality... the video MUST have no effects in it. A bunch of vids in that list have effects.

In any case, I am going to be abstaining from nominating or voting in Best No-Effects and Best Use of Simplicity. I think they are ridiculous categories, and are too buggy to be implemented.

Also, I'd like to point out that there's a few of the rejected categories that would have been better to have in the contest, such as "Saddest Video"...

I'm not sure what's being classified as an "effect" for this conversation. I know that the list of nominatable vids is based on whether people checked "Digital Effects" or not when they entered the video, but clearly some people used what are being considered effects, without flagging it as such. Just curious.

Anyway, if a little bit of overlaying video clips, and fades don't count as effects, I'd like to point out my video, because, well, that's what this is here for :P

Plz to enjoy, and thanks for your consideration :}

I'm pretty sure [please correct me if I'm wrong] that all the videos eligible for this year's VCAs are on those lists. Since "No-Effects" or "Original" or "Artistic" aren't actual categories for people to enter their videos in, I think they decided to leave it up to the general public to nominate those they think are the best. I agree that it is a somewhat iffy category, but I think that's one of the reasons we're having a three-step voting process this year...and to prevent people from nominating themselves in every category :roll:. But you've gotta admit, there are more well-informed people on the org than "idiotic site-goers" :wink: .

What it means to be young by atchang is my nominee here.

I think there is no effects in this vid (hasn´t played the games so I can´t be 100% sure) but it seems to be clean.

I went ahead and left the effects box unchecked for Everyone is Different, since all it really has are canned page transitions and two split-screens. I wouldn't consider the former to be an effect (any more than I would another transition like a cross-dissolve), but whether or not the latter is would be iffy. But, yeah, I see where you're coming from; it can be hard to draw a definitive line on what constitutes an "effect". Still, it's a decent category, as a complement to "Best Use of Visual Effects".

Anything more than a cross-dissolve from clip A to clip B, according to the definition you see when you're entering a video. That's what I use as my guideline in the VCA nominations.

Ummm, that vid's full of motion effects...
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.
