Selective Saving in VirtualDub: possible?

Post by LeperDoctor » Tue Feb 19, 2008 3:03 am

I was using VirtualDub to convert .Vob files into .avi files. One of my .Vob files has a bunch of useless stuff (ie, Warner Brothers logo) that I'm not going to be using in my music video for sure. Is there a way to selectively save only after a specific point, or between two points? I couldn't find that option, but it would take lots and lots of time off of the conversion between .Vob and .avi!!

Why aren't you following the standard vob -> d2v -> avs -> lossless format?

Because...I didn't know there was a standard? >.> The tutorial I found and followed said you could start the editting after turning an unusable VOB into a .avi by running it through a program...so that's what I did. I don't even know what d2v, avs or lossless mean o_O

that guide also goes on to say that just converting from .vob to .avi can cause problems later in the process if you don't know what you're doing.

I'd suggest you Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides. It's a bit thick...but if you push through it you'll find that it explains everything.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same guide (when I first tried to do music videos, I went through lots and lots of tutorials to find one I liked), but at any rate, thanks for mentioning that, and for suggesting this tutorial! I'll check it out right now.

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room

to get better quality though you should run all your vobs through d2v and make an avs script filtering them first, and use all that to open it up in Vdub.
