Subtitle Problems

Post by SF3P0X1 » Sat Mar 07, 2009 1:35 pm

I have quite a few ideas for AMVs using footage from Neon Genesis Evangelion. The only problem is I can't seem to find footage (or rip it myself) that doesn't have subtitles in it. This is especially true in regards to the movie The End of Evangelion, which I have only been able to find once, and it had subtitles built in. Any ideas to help?

I own the Platinum Edition set. I can't rip from it without there being subtitles on it. I want to be able to get rid of the subtitles.

What program are you using? Try DVD Decrypter (in the AMVapp), AnyDVD, or DVDFab. There's no way a real Platinum edition is hard-subbed so you should be able to rip it without subtitles just fine.

There's a guide to DVD Decrpter here.

I have DVD Decrypter. It doesn't work, the subs are still there.

Get snippy, it'll make me want to help more.

In DVD Decrypter, set the mode to IFO mode, go to the stream processing tab, uncheck the subtitle streams (and extra audio streams), and try ripping it again. If there are no subtitle streams to uncheck, then you likely got ripped off and have a bootleg copy Evangelion, because the real one would not be hard-subbed.

I'm going to try DVDFab if the Decrypter still doesn't work.

Didn't mean to get snippy, either.

Seems I had been using Decrypter the wrong way all along. I feel like such an idiot. Thanks, LivingFlame.

Hey, you're welcome. And no need to feel like an idiot. It's not like I immediately new what I was doing when I first looked at the program either. I picked up on the stuff from reading the guide in this thread, personally. I recommend it; it's good stuff. Long and somewhat tedious, but no one said you have to read it in one sitting. ;)
