aspect ratio

Post by psyimn » Tue Jun 16, 2009 7:25 pm

my Shuffle! DVD's come out as 720 x 480 and after I crop and resize the footage to 640 x 480 it gets letterboxed. Does the footage need to be cropped to begin with or can I just leave it as 720 x 480? because I don't want the letterboxing if possible.

Is there a reason you need to resize the footage to 640x480 specifically?

Look at the footage in DVD2AVI/DGIndex. If you see big black letterboxing, then you should crop it out. Otherwise, shoot THIS mother!@#$er you don't need to do any cropping just yet.

There's nothing stopping you from doing all your editing at the native DVD resolution of 720x480 if you want to. It's only when you're finished and you get to the encoding process that you really have to worry about resizing.

(Except if you're adding your own images to the video. Then you have to make sure their PAR matches the PAR of your video source.)

sounds like I don't need to resize my footage which is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks

Shuffle! is anamorphic widescreen, isn't it? You'd have to crop off an awful lot of the picture for 640x480 to be correct.
