Would this work okay?

Post by Sora no Honou 空の炎 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 1:47 pm

If you are ripping dvds all from the same series that came in the same set, would it be okay to just use the same script for each of them? Like the same filters and perimeters, etc.(Just changing the different source locations like for mpeg2source). Or would you have to change it at some point? Doing a new script for the 20 episodes I want to use would take a really long time. Thanks, just a small question.

It would probably be okay. However, a quick check for parameters to be fine before being done with it would still be advised: it's not uncommon for crop parameters to be different in every episode, for example, even within the same dvd.
As for the quality filters themselves, though, those should be fine for the whole thing. Perhaps make sure that if there's an episode with particularly action intense sequences it gets the proper filtering, if needed in any case.

From the same set, sure. If you're dealing with two different seasons of the same show, it may or may not be.

For example, the first season of Mahoromatic requires far more filtering to make it look alright than the second season does (massive cropping and use of ColorYUV to make sure that whites are actually white, and not a really noticeable yellow). And the thing is, those two seasons were produced nearly back-to-back, so either the authoring on the discs was all wrong or GAINAX just decided to update their equipment or something between season 1 and season 2 (which makes a tad more sense, as the quality of the second season is also present for their other post-2002 series).

Also, this process can be simplified by using DGIndex's template function - it'll output the script(s) for you when you index the episode(s), and you can just load up standard filtering for all of them in the template so that there's not a lot of manual editing going on.
