Sadly, I've only just come to realize this now.

Ah well, it'll be something to watch. I'm going to be getting the official box set in a couple of weeks.

Not necessarily. Central Park Media's first two Utena discs are region-free (well, technically all-region, but it boils down the the same thing).

But most of the time, yeah.

Another reason it's bootlegged is because Saikano was never re-released as a slimpack set. It was actually released by Viz Media in a 2-disc collection inside two normal-sized DVD boxes.

Yeah I found that out a little after. I honestly, stupid as I am, never really thought about the difference in price. I wonder if there's a way to get these directly from Japan for a much reduced price? I mean I love having anime and being able to watch it, but usually I've alREADY watched them, and am buying them for footage purposes. *ponders*

But yeah. Me = stupid right now.

Probably not. Japanese retail varies between what you might see for legit R1s to substantially more. And that's not counting S&H and any possible customs charges.

CDJapan is where I usually look.
