Hello there.
I'm attempting to deinterlace some PAL dvds (Zoids). I've been following the excellent Tech guide, but after running my footage through a deinterlace, I get some ugly "flickering" edges.
Certain black lines seem to "shimmer" through each frame which looks pretty terrible during playback. It doesn't always occur - it's only during certain shots.
Here's an example:

Any idea what this is caused by? I'm new to this and trying my best to get the hang of it.
I've tried each of the four recommended deinterlacers in turn and wind up with the same result each time.
Here's my current script (very simple):
MPEG2Source("C:\Zoids AMV\ZOIDSCC_DVD01\zoidscc_dvd01.d2v",cpu=4)
TDeint(mtnmode=3,type=3)
I apologise if this is a noobish question.
Deinterlacing PAL = flickering edges?

Apologies. Here are two frames from a shot in which it's more noticeable:

Alternate between the two pics and you should see the changes on the dark lines (especially on Irvine's headband). Is this what normally happens with deinterlacing?
The lines seem to change slightly every frame, which looks absolutely dreadful when played back.
On a closer look, it might be a jagged lines problem. I tried deinterlacing it with LeakKernelDeint and changing the threshold but it didn't clear the problem up. I also tried TISophote, but it didn't seem to improve it.
