DVD freezes up at scenes.

One of my Azumanga DVDs, for some reason, freezes up at two (so far) scenes. I'm not sure if it's due to ripping which I doubt or that it's dirty even though I cleaned it.

what are you doing? are you ripping the dvds or trying to play them?
does your system go unresponsive or does it just take a little time/skip a part of the video?

It's both actually. When I tried ripping the episode with the scene (The exams episode), it stopped at 7% . I had to end ripping them by the scene. As for playing the DVD, it freezes up in the same place and the scene before the credits of the last episode.
