Slow, slow(!) render rate in VirtualDubMod

Post by manpurse » Fri May 11, 2007 9:09 am

OK, I've ripped my DVD, the footage looks pretty good, and I'm ready to edit. But first, I have to change my .avs file to an .avi file. No problem!

...

Well, actually, there's a problem. No matter what codec I use, I can't get VirtualDub to render faster than 0.0-1.0 frames per second. I've never had this problem before. I tried an MJPEG codec, Huffy, Laga, "FastCodec"--even DivX and XviD! I know that I've done episode-length DivX conversions in about an hour before.

My current screen says that it will take about 48 days or so. Which, uh, is bad. I kind of wanted to whip something up in, say, the next week. (More specifically, by the 15th.)

Is there any way to get my video to render faster? What's the hold up? It's the hour-long FAKE OAV, if that helps.

I'm horribly confused.

Let's see...

I'm using deen, mtoon(?), and Tweak (I upped the saturation a tad). I also fiddled with the interlacing with Telecide and Decimate. I'm not sure if I kept in the "rainbow" filter.

I think that's everything.

Now my status box says it will take three days to render. Which is better, but any suggestions are welcome.

(I'm trying out FastCodec right now.)

you might also want to look into some alternatives to what your doing like just saving parts of the vid you want as oposed to the whole thing or frameserving/bait and switch method.

Dude, it was so mftoon's fault.

Thank you very much! :) The video quality's a tad less awesome, but now it will only take four hours to render.

It's amazing how much only little filter can wreak so much havoc.

I find vdub to be off in its estimation, too. I had one project say 30 days and it was done in 2.
