Premiere not recognizing output of VDub
Hi, I used the script:
DirectShowSource("C:\Users\Nightfire\Documents\Downloads\Gunbuster 2\Gunbuster05.mkv")
telecide(order=1,post=2,blend=true,vthresh=30,back=1)
in VDub and then the compression huffyuv, fast compression, then saved as .avi.
In media player 11 and classic I can view the exported video fine but when I import it into premiere it only shows about the first a minute or two of the clip.
Happened to 2 other clips I had attempted to change to. Worked fine though with avi videos but for some reason premiere wont show the entire clip of mkv files that have been changed.
Anyone know what's going on?

Completely irrelevant, as HuffYUV doesn't use <i>any</i> B-frames.post-it wrote:.. can Primere handle Multiple "B" frames ???
I'm surprised you actually went through with encoding an entire episode with HuffYUV; usually people try that and come running in here screaming that the files are way too big. What happens if you cut only the clips you need instead? It may just be that the files are too big for Premiere to handle (I have not heard of this happening before, but it's the only possibility I can think of).

Well each video is around 7 gb each but space doesn't really matter to me atm, also for me it's been much faster to encode the whole video at once and then split them up in premiere so I can visually see everything thing. And it's also much easier to get clips again if I have the whole video encoded and in premiere then going back to the video and encoded a section once I want to use it. Not to mention my new PC does it extremely fast so the time just to cut out clips in in comparison to just encoding it all doesn't take really any time at all.
Though if that's what I have to do for mkv files I will but there has to be a better way? Would encoding it with a different compressor work? i remember hearing about Uncompressed RGB and Lagarith. But would it be bad to use some clips that are HuffYUV and some Largarith?
Right now I'll see if I can just cut out clips, as you mentioned though I've also never heard (even though I'm very new to premiere) of premiere not being able to handle larger video sizes, as mentioned it did fine with episodes in the same length just different original format . So I think it's all about the mkv format.

Actually now that I attempted this again I remember the biggest issue I had with this.
When I have any video going through directshowsource it takes forever to scrub through it in virtual dub.
I mean even if I just clip somewhere it takes forever to actually come up. Is there a better way of doing this?

I think that just depends what video file is within the mkv. Scrubbing through a Huffyuv-encoded file, or uncompressed would be much faster; MJPEG would be even faster[a "Motion-JPEG"]. It takes a while to convert, so I usually just load everything into vdub's job control, let it sit overnight, and tell it to turn the computer off when done. The next day, I've got nice big, fast, files to search through
If you want to seek through the mkv directly though, try adding killaudio() to your script, and commenting out the other filters by putting a '#' in front of the line...like this:
#telecide(order=1,post=2,blend=true,vthresh=30,back=1)

Well killing the audio makes it at least bearable to scrub through the episode.
What does "commenting out" the filters do? and why would I use it?
I did cut out a 2:38 second clip from an episode and it played all of that clip, I'll try larger segments in a bit.
Whats the MJPEG your refer to? a compressor like huffyuv? if so does it come with the amvapp or do you have to download it somewhere else? Also would it be better to use than huffyuv?

I would agree except it does fine with .avi files that have been converted that are the same in length or even larger. So the only difference that I know of would be the file original file type.maybe it is just to big
lol forgot about job control, remember reading about it but didn't even cross my mind. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to encode most of the episodes I use, but there were quite a bit of them so job control would have helped XD.It takes a while to convert, so I usually just load everything into vdub's job control, let it sit overnight, and tell it to turn the computer off when done. Are you removing the audio streams before you do this?

Sorry for the double post, that is to say if you have multiple audio streams and your just compressing them both into an avi file your going to get problems. Mjpeg (Motion Jpeg) is just that, continuous jpeg images usually the chosen format of cameras (not video cameras) when recording video files. Stick with huffy for the mo and try open what you have got already in media player classic then if its the audio go back and remove the audio stream.
Also it might be worth having a look at what the media cache is doing when you are cutting these big files. If you were using .vob files it wouldn't be slow at scrubing through....
ok.
