First of all, I am a newby when it comes to de-interlacing. It kind of intimidates me, because it seems complicated and even after reading the guide I know I will do it wrong if I don't ask for help.
Well, when looking at my footage, I don't think it could GET any clearer that it's interlaced. It screams it. Here are some pictures:
^ Almost the whole picture
^ Shinji, the guy on the right
^See his arm? It's interlaced completely where his arm was in the previous frames.
These weird orange lines are very visible while watching. It's almost like it's another problem combined with the interlacing.
I cannot give you the script I am using because no matter what de-interacing technique I try, it comes out looking terrible (too much blending, too little of an effect or I run into another problem). I suppose one of my problems could be because I cannot even get through the first step. Trying to do just the first step, using AviSynth and Virtual Dub, I put in CheckFieldOrder(). Now, the guide says, "One of the images will have ordinary looking motion and the other one will jerk back and forth in a really obvious manner ... The smooth one is the correct field order..." I understand that, but there is no obvious jerking motion between top and bottom. They both move a little, but I scrolled frame through frame and they both seem to jerk back in forth pretty much the same, so there is no obvious one. I just tried guessing. I used 1, experimented, 0, experimented and nothing seems to do the job.
Could anyone please help me out with this? I uploaded a lagarith video clip for people to actually see what I am seeing. I know pictures are hard to go by. Here is the video clip. I am not asking anyone to just give me a de-interlacing script for my footage (although I must admit it will save me a lot of time and headaches) unless they want to. I'm showing the clip to see if anyone more experienced can figure out the field order and maybe help me through it a bit.
Thanks a lot!

Oh, bloody hell.
I don't suppose KimiNozo also has illegal field order transitions (scroll through the timeline in DGIndex and watch the field order; does it flip between "T" and "B"?)? Because certain Love Hina DVDs I had to work with recently had both illegal field order transitions AND the problem you're illustrating here -- namely, frames that exhibit combing ONLY IN THE CHROMA.
You could try setting <b>chroma=true</b> in TFM, but watch to make sure that doesn't cause unwanted side effects such as you sometimes see from bad deinterlace jobs. Other than that, I got nothin'.

Oops
I am very confused because DGindex tells me that it is progressive. (Yup, sorry, it looks like I forgot to mention that important detail earlier. Stupid me. ).Scintilla wrote:Oh, bloody hell.

The chroma=true didn't do the trick... I know this can be fixed because I've watched some of the great KimiNozo AMVs on this site (I suggest this one by af_asagaru. I watch it all the time. It's amazing ) Though, I do feel weird when PMing someone for help. It's like "Hey, I don't know you, but I have a problem," lol.
Thank you so much for replying anyway, Scintilla! I always appreciate your replies!
Has anybody worked with Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien footage that's reading this? It could be something I'm doing wrong, but I'm not sure.

Re: Oops
My money's on that footage being sourced from either fansubbed DVD rips of the R2s or the R2s themselves.Kero777 wrote:I know this can be fixed because I've watched some of the great KimiNozo AMVs on this site.

I tried re-ripping a couple of episodes today and I guess something went wrong when I was ripping the footage before. I could have messed up the settings or maybe it was some sort of glitch?
Anyway, It looks much better now. No more discoloration/chroma problems. Thanks for trying to help me out.
